Heh, gonna take more than beating and scoring a few goals against the 2 worst teams in the Eastern Conference for me to not think the Caps are the worst team currently in the playoffs.

Beat Montreal, and at least split between the Leafs/Sens in the next 5 games and I'll believe they are actually decent now.

lol just like you predicted us to lose 3 out of 5 during that one stretch, we were the worst team in the league and would be the 7 seed now

Lord no, if they take 2 of 3 between the Habs, Leafs, and Sens in their next 5.

Why would I be the least bit mad?

I said many pages ago I wanted the Caps in the playoffs and hopefully to face the Penguins but that division is too shitty for that to happen in Round 1 it appears.

Just not a believer that the Caps are back or even good, just beating the weakest teams in the Conference. 8-1-1 last 10 games, 3 games against playoff teams, beating 2 of them in a shootout and losing to the Isles at home in regulation, while also losing to the Flyers in a SO.

Not enough of a sample size against good teams to see the Caps as any more than a 7 seed and first round exit, hence the tough 3 games coming up in next 5 as the real test as to how good they are.

Excuse me for being skeptical.

Yeah, last time we played in the postseason it led to a Pens Cup, hence, I want to play again.

that is fair but let me remind you......regardless of seeding.............when the playoffs start it is a new season and anything can happen. Remember 2002? The 8th seeded habs knocked off the #1seed Goonins in 6 games! 2004? The 7th seeded habs beat the #2 seed goonins in 7 games. 2010? The 8th seeded habs beat the presidents cup champ #1 seeded caps in 7 and then went on to beat the defending stanley cup champs pens in 7! never count any team out of the playoffs if they get in. Like the great Patrick Roy once said "when Zhou get in da playoffs dings happen"

Horrible horrible start and it was all on his shoulders and he handled it terribly

bullshite. Complete and utter bullshite.

To deal with the Milbury thing first, what was so infuriating about his comments (other than people who ACTUALLY AGREEING WITH MIKE MILBURY) was that he was saying Ovie was done as a great player when he literally had a hat trick in his previous game. Ovie is the only player on earth who will get dogged for not scoring a point in the game after he notches a friggin' hat trick. Even worse, he complained about a no look pass from behind the goal, the kind of pass Crosby makes all the friggin' time. In fact, next week, they were praising Crosby for making the same exact pass the next week in studio. The only difference is that Kunitz buried it.

OK, Milbury's stupidity out of the way...

Ovie has been great all year. Oates put him on a line with Matt f'n Hendricks. Until a few games ago, Hendricks was his most common linemate (Backstrom finally passed him). He's been on a glorified checking line, asked to play defense first, and you didn't hear one word of complaint. Hell, he didn't complain last year during Hunter Hockey. Ovie is playing his fourth system in five years, and outside of one time he called Boudreau a fat frick on the bench (which was caught by cameras, he didn't run to reporters with it), he's not once complained. This malcontent BS is just that. BS.

And he was solely responsible for their slow start? Chimera has scored as many goals in his own net than the opposing one this year. Secondary scoring was practically non-existent, going nearly 10 games with a point from the third line. Over three quarters of the Caps goal have involved Backs, Ovie, or Green on the scoresheet.

The Caps problem early in the year, more than anything else, was defense. The Caps allowed 41 goals in their first 11 games. That's almost 4 a game. They've allowed 69 in their last 28, closer to 2.5. Shave off 1.5 goals a game, and it's shocking the team got better.

And know what team has the best record against their own division in hockey? The Penguins. The Atlantic is a pretty crappy division as well, so quit chucking stones from your glass house. You ain't in the meat grinder of the Northeast.

The Habs are such a fascinating team. No real star power, but they are top to bottom solid. Just no real weaknesses. They keep rolling lines at you.

It's like the total opposite of the Caps, who are extremely reliant on their top line. There's a giant drop off in production as you go down the lines. The Habs don't rely on anyone. It's a different guy who beats you ever night.

yeah this year. we sucked last year.

Marc Bergevin and Michel Therrien have done a remarkable job thus far. Michel may win COTY if we go deep in the playoffs.

well we are hurting right now without Rene Bourque. He should be back soon though. We just lost a good young D man Alexei Emelin. Hopefully Raphael Diaz will be back soon to take Alexei's place or we may use Tinordi from our AHL affiliate ,hamilton bulldogs.

yes, overall we have 4 lines that can come at you. We are much more physical now than in the past. Plekanecs, Mad max, ryder, Gallagher, Bourque, gionta, Markov, Subban, deharnais can all score.

Gallagher could be rookie of the year and win the calder trophy.

Lars Eller and Galchenyuck are coming along great. They both can score at crucial times and are getting better and better.

Our 4th line of grinders led by Prust has been $$$$.

Our style of D is what I love...limit all SOG. block shots. You give up too many shots and the law of averages will get you sooner or later. Price and budaj do not see much rubber. sometimes that is good and bad. but i prefer less. I want all shots blocked so price can sit back eating a snow cone.

Yes, well the caps are loaded with Ovie and Backstrom. mike Green is a good D man also.

Not to beat this drum too much, but that's pretty much the foundation of hockey's advanced stats. Corsi is essentially plus/minus for all attempted shots, and Fenwick is the same with blocked shots not counting as shots (it helps teams that block shots, as Corsi treats it as a negative event).

Because of score effects, teams go into more of a defensive shell when winning, so a favored stat for evluating a team is FENCLOSE, or the Fenwick rating when the game is within one goal. Here are the ratings for this year.

LINK

LA, Chicago, and Boston are off the charts good, though Montreal is near the league lead, with a 53.21% edge. BTW - this is Washington's Achilles heel. They have an awful FENCLOSE. Just awful. Mainly because their 3rd and 4th lines get killed on possession. The Caps are the Florida Panthers without Ovie and Backs.

Seems like a lot of excuses for Ovechkins shitty play half the season more than anything.

But yes, when a team has a terrible start it falls on the stars, just how it goes.

Lol, not really. Rangers and Isles are playoff teams.

Can you tell me the 13th, 14th, and 15th place teams in the East? Let me help you, Carolina, Tampa, and Florida. Jesus.
