| Sean Payton appreciation thread. (Posted on 1/16/13 at 2:07 am)
With all the subpar coaches being interviewed and hired I am very grateful that Sean is back. The Bears hired a CFL coach

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton briefly played quarterback for the Rough Riders in 1987. New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride was an assistant with Ottawa in 1985 and ‘86. New England Patriots strength and conditioning coach Harold Nash spent 11 years in the CFL with Shreveport, Montreal, Winnipeg and Edmonton. He was a CFL all-star three times. San Francisco 49ers wide receivers coach John Morton caught passes for the Argos in ‘95 and ‘96. Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame after a stellar 12-year career with four teams — including Ottawa. Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett quarterback for the Rough Riders in 1992. Washington Redskins assistant Richmond Flowers III tried out with Saskatchewan as a receiver in 2007. Chicago Bears wide receivers coach Darryl Drake was a receiver with Ottawa in 1981. Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham was a defensive coach with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1981. Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, was a leading candidate for the head coaching job in Miami that went to Joe Philbin, played quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders in 1999. Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Joe Dalessandris was a coach with Ottawa in 1990 and with the Memphis Mad Dogs in ‘95. The Kansas City Chiefs have two ex-CFLers: quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn was with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in ’86 and offensive line coach Pat Perles spent six years in the CFL in the ’90s. Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer was the offensive line coach with the Montreal Concordes in 1983. Oakland Raiders offensive line coach Bob Wylie had the same title in Winnipeg and Saskatchewan between 2007 and 2009.

Exactly... And Trestman spent years in the NFL (1985-2004). This silliness of ripping the Bears for hiring a CFL coach is fandom at its most absurd and ignorant. As Jim Rome said yesterday... try google before you bitch.
