Has anyone pointed out that there were only 3 games that had more pass plays called than run? I may have missed it. Florida Ole Miss Clemson

Just an observation. Most of our ranter brethren seem to think we run too much and don't pass enough. Seems like it hurts when we follow their opinions.

I'd like to see the run vs pass percentage ratio for a lot of those games, bet it would be 80 run 20 pass.

No idea, but since LSU's strength is still the run it is surprising there were any games with more pass plays than runs.

LSU is a run first team. Always has been under Miles.

The issue that we have is that we suck at passing, not that we don't pass enough.

That particular factoid isn't all that important. Short, high-percentage passes have much in common with runs, but are very different from long post routes. With that in mind LSU's short high-percentage play vs. longer go-for-it play ratio is probably ten to one, just like basically every other team.

We had success passing on first and second downs in the first three quarters vs Bama, not so much in obvious passing situations.

The problem is not that we pass too much, it's the fact that we pass when we need to run and run when we need to pass. Another thing is our passing game is so basic and predictable just like everything else in a CLM offense. Even though is shouldn't be his job, props to Tommy Moffit for getting the WR's on track, per J. Landry, after their struggles early on.

I think the ideal percentage for us is 60/40 run/ pass with around 200/200 ypg. Les said the 200/200 (or even closer to 250 passing) was where he'd like to see it. we were at 200/200 about midway thru the season if not later. fwiw, we ended up at 200 passing/ 174 rushing, and 60/40 run pass this yr.

we have great running backs...that's not the problem. The problem is we are PREDICTABLE....we telegraph our plays. This does not produce a good offense, hence our #74 NCAA ranking. Believe it or not, you can run out of the shotgun and pass out of the I...our playcalling doesn't do enough to keep opposing defenses off-balance. Nine out of 10 times, when we lined up in the Pistol, it was a toss play to Spencer Ware...for like 2 yards Gary Crowton was better than what we have now...sorry guys. He wasn't the greatest, but when he hit a hot streak, he dialed up plays that worked... Our offense works now primarily because we bulldoze weaker foes...In the Alabama game this year, we were agressive and had them on their heels, but we never replicated that in other games. Most of the time, I think they are scared to utilize Mettenberger, and it shows!

Not sure I understand the point ofthis thread at all. We are a run first team. Our strength is our RBs and the depth of that position. Don't understand whats so hard to grasp about that. As I'm sure has been pointed out already we lost 2 out of 3 of those games and took a late comeback to win the third one, so I don't think it is necessarily a good thing when we throw more than we run. Maybe that was your point though.
