Walther P22 vs Ruger SR22

Which would you prefer? Need a good range gun that shoots cheaper ammo than my 9mm.

Beretta Neos. Looks like its from the future but its a tight gun, cheap and easy to mount a red dot.
Out of the two you listed, definitely the Walther.
If im getting a Ruger .22 it'd be a Mark3. I have the Mark2 and want the 3 pretty good.

The Neos just don't do it for me.

I own both and the Ruger SR22 is much better than the Walther, in my opinion.
The Walther is iffy with certain ammo. I also hate the safety on it.
The SR22 feels solid, shoots well and I have had no problems with any ammo used. I have a few thousand rounds through it so far.
Actually, since I purchased the Ruger, the walther has not left the safe.
Just my opinion, good luck with whichever you choose!

Walther P22
My favorite handgun EVER!

I'm a fan of the walther myself.

I'm leaning towards the Ruger, but not sure if I can find one.

The Neos has a worse grip angle than a Glock. I absolutely cannot shoot one well. It's impossible.
I say Ruger SR22 over those. But I say Ruger 22/45 LITE over the SR22 also...

Of those two I'd go with the Ruger. I bought the S&W M&P 22 recently and it's probably my favorite .22 pistol to plink with...since I have an M&P 9mm as well.

For what it's worth, I have a W P22, and I like it. I had some issues firing cheap Remington bullets out of it over the holidays. The powder charge was not enough to cycle the slide. These same cartridges would fire when the suppressor was on the pistol though. I have not fired it since then and don't know if it was the ammo or the pistol needing cleaning???
The P22 was picky with some ammo is all I can say with any certainty. Not sure about the why yet. It did shoot everything well with the suppressor.
I would look at magazines as well and determine if they are available and how much they cost. This could help you decide on your purchase.

The Ruger SR22 is light years ahead of the Walther. It's basically a better-designed P22

Damn Man....that's harsh. Light Years? What is that in Parsecs? Answer: 3.26 Light Years. So, let's just say that the Ruger is one parsec better than my Walther.

I own both of these guns and the Walther is very picky with the brand of ammo that you use. It will only shoot CCI consistently. The Ruger has flawlessly shot any brand of ammo I've put in to it.

I have a sr22 that shoots great however I have a feedramp issue that I need to take it to my gun smith. When releasing slide, the ammo sometimes jams into the feedramp and I have to tap to return to full battery. Other than that the fun shoots flawless.
I HATE the fire up safety. Most guns are fire down which is far more intuitive.
My dad loves his p22 and has never had an issue with it but a friend of mine has one that I have shot a bit and it definitely seems to be more ammo particular however both of these guns prefer hotter ammo.

interesting....I've been debating these 2 guns as well.
I have a Mark III but wanted another one w a threaded barrel for a suppressor. Leaning towards the Ruger.
Is it hard to get a suppressor for them?

Bump.....
How hard is it to get a suppressor for either of these guns?

At this point, probably fairly tough. I don't think it would be as hard as trying to find 22lr ammo right now, but I still don't see it being easy.
Since they are proposing adding certain firearms to the ATF registry, your wait time may be longer.
EDIT: As I mentioned earlier, for an already-awesome, suppressor-ready 22lr handgun, I would get the 22/45 LITE. It has everything you'd want and nothing you wouldn't.
