My sales pitch to Robert Nkemdiche. (Good or not?)

•Coach Miles, Chavis, and Haley have an impeccable track record with sending defensive players, especially on the line, to the NFL.

•You will have the rare chance to start for a perennial powerhouse as a true freshman due to departures and your skills set & ability.

•At most other schools, teams will be more likely to have a blocking scheme to take you out of the game. At LSU we have such great players that teams have to play honest and not key on just one player. (Example: Sam and Keke this past year)

No good? This is honestly what I would tell him. Am I over thinking it guys?

Play with his brother. That's what I I think is gonna happen. If that's important to him I don't blame him at all. He will be king of the ole miss campus.

Here's what should be said...nothing more, nothing less.

"Son, you have a chance to play on a defense that is tops in the nation year in and year out. By year 3 our d-linemen are ready to be first round draft picks. You have a chance to play early, and play often for one of the best defensive minds in football.......

OR you could just go to Ole Miss and be none of those things."

Shoot, offer the brother a transfer. Tell him the Klan ain't welcome in BR, either. Oxford can't say that.

I don't think you can go and "offer" a kid at another school to transfer.

re: My sales pitch to Robert Nkemdiche. (Good or not?)

Nigerians are tribal people. They tend to value family over extended family, extended family over tribe, and tribe over all others. There it stops. People from western countries find it hard to understand these connections, but I've seen hard working Nigerians with integrity put up with a lot of shite from the most worthless pieces of crap you've ever seen.

The family usually revolves around the oldest son. It's typical that a wealthy Nigerian man puts his oldest son in charge of his business interests and the other sons (and God knows, the daughters) have no control. However, they can lay on the older brother's leg for the rest of their lives. And the older brother loyally supports them even after the parents are dead and he has no legal obligation.

I don't know how this RN situation will play out, but the family connections are probably much more important than most of us realize. Oh, and the mother - senator or not - probably has no say in this unless she married way below her station.

JK. I agree, he can come in and start if he is as advertised.

I don't think you are over thinking it at all. I sure that's exactly what our coaches are telling him.

You don't think he'll be a first rounder just because he plays at Ole Miss?

I would say the only way you would get to play in your home state again is at LSU because Ole Miss has never been to Atlanta and probably never will

Thank you for this rational, analytical post. You make a very good point.

And then there is Ole Miss' sales pitch.

"You'll be a first rounder even though you come to Ole Miss"

We're sending ten juniors to the NFL this year.. that's about all the sales pitch you need.

I am pretty sure that RN knows we're the better option. He is just pressured by family to go to OM. It will come down to whether or not he caves to that pressure.
