He was the OC at Dunham for the past two years. He's had a good bit of experience as a head coach and coordinator. He's also been named the AD.

Absolutely no reason schools like Erath, Kaplan, and North vermilion should be beating Abbeville High

They need a vocal black coach to get in the ears of the street thugs and get them on the damn field

I wonder if he will do as well as he did at Winnfield a few years back. I believe he coached the only team in the history of that program that didn't win a game.

Not true, they did win a game or two. He has a pretty good offensive scheme. if he has a dual threat at QB, they can be pretty successful. Hope he does well.

This. He has a nice system, but it's complex for most high schoolers to get right away. Needs a good QB to have success running it.

He went 0-10 at Winnfield, beat Jonesboro-Hodge and had to forfeit the game due to having an ineligible player. Pissed off the team, parents, fans, and administration in less than half a season. In fairness he didn't have any talent to work with that year at all, but his horrible attitude made it much worse. His system is complex and he would not change it to meet his lack of personnel. Personally I was a fan of the scheme he ran in 2006, just not so much his persona. He teaches his Qbs to have a funky throwing motion he did it at both Winnfield and Central. He does a lot of 4-5 wide, with motion and screens, that if ran correctly can be very exciting.

He will get player participation initially, I thought he did a wonderful job of that. The question will be has he learned from past mistakes? With the athletes available in Abbeville and his system he could do big things, but only if he isnt his own worst enemy.

You had players still having trouble memorizing it all. Many times they had to use timeouts because they were lined up incorrectly, which would have made the play not work. There'll be a ton of formations, with a ton of new terminology, and like winntiger said, a lot of motion and screens.

Let it be known for the record that he was NEVER the backup to Jake D as the article suggests.

I was on the same USL team with him.

Wish him success in coaching..

It says he was a backup, not the only one.

He alienated everyone in Winnfield, in particular those who pushed to hire him and tried to support him. He would not listen to supporters, school administrators; he lashed out at those trying to offer support, he was not always truthful, and simply put, was a total bust at Winnfield, a pretty storied program for a small, backwoods sawmill town. He tried to do things Winnfield had no capablility of doing with the talent and personnel they had. No one was sad to see him leave, no one. After burning every bridge he crossed and many before he crossed them, he found reason to blame everyone but himself.

I actually know the guy and grew up with him and he is a great guy.

As far as the Winnfield deal, he tried to take a running team and make it an exclusively passing team in one year. He did not have the personnel to make the move that quick and the kids really did not understand the offensive scheme and the team lost confidence in themselves. As far as him not "telling the truth" it does not sound like the guy I know.

As far as coaches listening to supporters etc... You show me a coach who changes everything that someone tells him to change and I show you a coach who loses every ballgame.

Coaches have a plan and they have to stick to it.

I have known Towery for a long time, he is a good guy and would give you the shirt off his back! I'll bet most of you negative posters have never even met him, just going off what someone told you or whatever. He'll be the first one to admit the mistakes he has made, especially at Winnfield. The honesty and lies thing is totally false, he's just the opposite honest to a fault, tells it like he see's it. As far as the funky motion thing, that's inaccurate too, he works with several QB's in the Baton Rouge area, including the last three starters from Central, the two possible starters for Central next year, the starter at Catholic and several others in the Baton Rouge area. The Briscoe kid would be the starter at McNeese right now if it wasn't for all the knee injuries. They came to him for some reason? You figure it out. Why get on here and trash the man for something that happened 6 years ago? He know's the things he did wrong and he accepts that he made mistakes. Leave it alone!
