Does anyone LIKE Windows 8?

It looks like it's made for tablets, but apparently MS is forcing this upon desktop and laptop users. The MetroUI makes zero sense to me.

I had it installed on my laptop for a while. I ended up using 3rd party software called StartMenu8 from ioBit to disable the metroUI and get a normal start menu back, but it was way too unstable. I had to reboot 3 - 4 times / day when switching between networks. I travel between businesses a lot and W8 just couldn't handle it.

In fact, I've been off my linux kick for at least a year now, but now I'm back on it. Arch linux on this laptop w/ SSD takes about 5 seconds to load after selecting Arch from Grub. I personally have never seen an OS boot so fast. From power button, through grub, and logon, to opening a web browswer and being at Google we're talking 15-20 seconds.

Windows 8 I find boots a bit faster and is a little less bloated than Windows 7, but once you've got some software installed, it seems to have some stability/connectivity issues.

It's not just me, either, a co-worker confirmed similar issues on his laptop.

Get used to it. It's the beginning of the new metroUI / FLAT design trends. As a web dev, I like it bc it's much easier to design but as a user, I don't really care for it on anything other than a touch screen.

I have definitely noticed that the people who like it are generally using the computer for very basic tasks, and the people that don't are the people that use a computer for more involved tasks or actual work.

This.

If I didn't use my computer for actual work - It may be different. I kept XP forever, skipped over Vista and waited on 7, which I like a LOT. It's not nearly the resource hog that Vista was. I wonder how much 8 overprocesses.

I like it. It's a stable platform and I haven't had any issues with it. I use my computer for office suites, PhotoShop CS5, and surfing, with some music/video.

I just use the desktop and have no issues. It is like windows 7 for me.

Sure some of the interface and menu items are different, but you get used to it.

It isn't different enough to warrant an upgrade from 7, but it isn't an abomination.

About every other one. ME sucked, XP was great, Vista was horrible, Windows 7 was good, 8 is a sack of shite.

Don't like it. I'm a developer and it's just not good for productivity. I'll stick to windows 7 for my asp.net development

I'm confused. Are you using the MetroUI, or do you switch to the desktop for everything? I look at the MetroUI and I don't even know what the frick to do.

8 is a slight upgrade from 7 but not worth rushing out to get it.

If you don't like the UI you can change it, that isn't reason to hate 8.

re: Does anyone LIKE Windows 8?
I "upgraded" to W8 on one of my home PCs and prefer windows 7 .

8 seems to just be complicated/ different to be different and complex....I see no improvement for a desktop. If I used a windows tablet I might feel different.

Posted from an iPad.

Did you read my post? I disabled MetroUI. The OS is slimmer and quicker, but it's not stable. I had to reboot it several times/day. I went back to Windows 7, no problems.

Casty,, have you seen Windows Server 2012? A server OS with all the tablet BS forced on you. Makes no sense to me.
