Because Jacquizz Rodgers from the Atlanta Falcons sure as Hell lowered his head to lead with the crown of his helmet to run over Earl Thomas.

Or is it just me?

You be the judge...

I thought the same thing when it happened.

It really is a double standard that a runner with the ball can use his helmet as a weapon but if a defender does it, it's a penalty.

Unfortunately, there really is no solution for this without weakening the game or making it more dangerous.

sucks.

i'll agree that if the roles were reversed, then rogers would be the one on his arse and 15 yards would be tacked onto the end of the run.

that said, i think it is a stupid rule and shouldn't be called at the professional level.

I agree with you that the rules on hitting have gottten out of hand. The issue is that Thomas was not "defenseless"

You can hit a reciever or rb while they are running. Sometimes just depends who's wearing the white cap that day.

Yeah, it's called a penalty because the offensive player is "defenseless". Kind of hard to be defenseless if you're trying to tackle someone.

Exactly.

And I think it's a dumb rule that should not be called unless a player launches themselves at another player.

imagine someone like AD running at you full blast head down and you're just standing there in his way. his momentum against you is just as equivalent to a linebacker running full speed with his head down.

I'd want to cry if I was that someone getting steamrolled by AD though. lol

Dont try and argue with Chad, especially in an argument over stupidity. He will destroy you. Guaranteed.

I don't believe helmet to helmet contact is a penalty between a runner and a tackler.

It's only helmet to helmet between tackler and defenseless players (i.e. catching the ball) or qb's that gets flagged.

That's why pierre thomas getting his face demolished by whitner wasn't a penalty.

Guess I could be wrong though, they try to get so specific with rules these days and it just leads to a more confusing, controversial outcome. A perfect example of this is contact between ball and ground on a catch. I think if the ball touches ground before possession is maintained, no catch. All this "well it moved" "he had control through ground" bullshite is getting old. Just have clear cut rules and deal with the downside of that imo, at least that way it is the same for everyone
