Some times you just catch a band on a bad night...I saw the Deftones about 6 times, but one of those times, they were horrible, it just happens. Saw Joe Walsh once, he was also bad, just a flat show. And one of my biggest disappointments, STP. I was pumped to see them once years ago, but their show just didn't move me. Again, it happens, but not enough where I would stop listening to the bands.

Many memories have been posted about the great New Orleans Pop Festival (actually in Prairieville) and the great music lineup. But as great as it was, can I tell you Jefferson Airplane totally sucked that night they played. Worst act at the event.

Shooter frickin' Jennings.
Played a festival I was part of the management team of. I actually pushed to book him. Dude didn't play but 3 of the songs that made him popular and this was after his 40 minute long spaceman set of new material that he now plays and it's steadily dropping him off the map. That shite killed the bar sales and the energy of the night and dicked over the next act. We had to run a local band from the side stage for a 25 minute warmup before the headline act to liven the crowd back up and get people dancing and chugging.
Jamey Johnson is also a terrible live act. Still to this day one of the most fun, entertaining shows I've been to was Insane Clown Posse. Don't really care for the music but they're a fun show.

You guys list of rotten live bands already suck.
I have been to over 300 shows and hardly if any of them sucked. I pick out bands I like.
Go to a real rock show and not some band that you wont remember their name next year!

Easily the worse thing Ive ever seen at Jazz Fest... wasnt familiar with him before this, but remember laughing at his cliched lyrics about weed and paying the bills...

Never saw them live, but every show I have seen or listened to on bootleg is terrible.
For being so damn good in the studio it is obvious they tried to suck as bad as possible live.

It didn't really surprise me, because a lot of their appeal is really tasteful studio production, but combine that with a new drummer and the live versions just carry no weight.

This, at a smaller club, would have made all the difference. I saw them outdoors, playing with a drummer that didn't record the originals.

This is really old, and kind of embarrassing, but the band Travis. I went through a phase where I was really into brit pop. I never saw them live in person, but I watched a performance by them on HBO or something. The audience was all girls, and they were pandering to the crowd doing little pretty boy cutey cute stuff. They were dead to me.

When I'm trying to sell booze and create a memorable environment that the fans will plan their lives in the future around and save up money to be able to come out and let loose and live it up, then yea I want bands with energy, that get a crowd active, get 'em mooving and feeling the vibe. What you don't want is the fans standing around looking at each other like WTF is going on.
