Inglorious Basterds is a good movie.

But it could be better. Tarantino does a great job of setting up the notion Nazis are evil as shite and Christopher Waltz steals the show. He's a top 10 bad guy no doubt.

But, Tarantino's style turns it into some kind of dark ironic comedy. Pitt's cartoonish accent, Waltz's character after he catches the plot just goes to Hell. Tarantino's signature editing is subdued, but still unwanted.

Flame away.

It had a few great scenes, and Waltz was great as well. I agree with you though. Overall the movie fell short of what it could have been. It was good, not great.

I thought it was very good..

However, after the 1st 20 minutes..

I thought this was going to be one of the greatest movies ever.

Unfortunately Tarantino couldnt resist some of the slapstick stuff.

With that said...Tarantino does have a point. He doesnt make his movies for now. He makes them for 20 years from now.

I like much better now than I did when it first came out. So I'll probably enjoy it more as the years pass.

I disagree. It's probably the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater. From top to bottom it was classic.

First 20 minutes is my favorite beginning to any movie.

Yeah they could have added another scene or two with them and made the movie 30 minutes longer and I wouldn't have complained. Nobody can make a 3 hour movie move fly by like Tarantino.

I agree with the OP's general summation on Basterds. It's also why I found Django to be a superior film.

I say great. I laughed more during this movie than during 90% of so-called "comedies".

Pitt's cartoonish accent,
I don't get why people think he is a great actor. I think he's terrible.

I thought it was fantastic. Waltz is amazing. Pitt is hilarious.

Just watched Django, Waltz as a good guy is even better because you want to like him.

I also think it is a great movie.

It is a fantasy movie dealing with defeating the Nazis so it gave Tarantino the opportunity to be creative in developing the personalities of the characters and situations.

The scene where you hear the bat banging inside of the cave and it seems to take forever for him to come out of the cave built the suspense and made me feel what the Nazi who was going to get his head bashed in must have been feeling.

The bar scene where he is discovered as a spy because of the way he used his fingers to gesture the number three was a stroke of genius.

The shootout was one of the most intense scenes I've ever experienced.

I give it an A++++.

I thought it was damn good. I'm glad it wasn't strictly about the Basterds slaughtering Nazis

"we in the killin' Nazi bidness"

When people ask why I love movies, this is a film I point to. Love everything about this movie. Landa was definitely one of the all time best villains.

IB got better the more I watched it.

Didn't care for it so much the first viewing. Now I enjoy it. It's definitely better than Django. (which I enjoyed)
