I was in Tiger Band from 1985-1987, the loudest I remember during that period was the Ohio State game

That Ohio State Game was pretty fricking loud.

Nothing like being ON THE frickING FIELD with all that noise directed at you. Couldn't hear the sound coming out of my own trumpet.

I wish LSU could bring in big time OOC opponents like they did in the 70's -80's.

Out of the games I've attended in order:
1) Alabama 2012
2) Florida 1997
3) Auburn 2005
4) Fla 2007/ Alabama 2008

The game that my father and uncles always talk about is the USC 1979 game as previous mentioned, my father said he's pretty sure no one sat down that entire game.

1986 T A & M game was real loud. as was the epic 1979 USC game and the 1971 ND game.As of recently the 2003 UGA game was an awesome experience.

re: Loudest games in LSU history.

Heck... the night before the 79 game vs. USC was one of the loudest games. Only time I've heard of po po being called out to break way through crowd to allow visiting team to walk the field, the night before the game (I was on front row). Estimates ranged from 5 -8000 crazies crowded the buses for USC. That USC team had three guys that made it to the NFL HALL OF FAME and two Heisman Winners! Plus, 20 players that would make/eventually make All American. My dad had a friend from USC come in for the game with the line, "It's the only place in America where the fans stand up and applaud the visiting team..." My dad was an Auburn grad. This man arrived in time to drive over to the stadium Friday night to witness the near riot around the USC buses. His comment, "It's the only place I've ever been where I personally witnessed 70 year old women screaming the entire game... Everyone screamed at the top of their lungs the entire game." Famed sportswriter, the late Jim Murray of the L.A. Times covered that game and then covered a Rams game in L.A. the following day. His column, which was sent to me by the USC grad, began with the line, "It ought to be against the law to watch a game in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge and have to cover another game the following day..." I lost the article and have searched many archives for it as it also included many other great "brags" on our incredible venue.

The fans who never went to the games when we only had the west upper just can't accept that TS was louder back then. I remember as a kid being in awe of how loud it was. Tiger baiting the opposing team as they came out gave me goose bumps. Had an older fan "big red" ( I think) that had a metal megaphone... Yelled tigah bait, tigah bait over and over.

Too be honest it wouldn't mean as much to the older folks. The GROUP of fans that are butthurt over 2003 would get a kick out of it though.

Pregame Ohio State when they refused to take the field first might get my vote.

I have been to most every game since the 70's with the exception of USC

Simple explanation: that was before the fire marshal limited the number of students to the number of seats in the student section. I was at LSU before they made that change. We had a row of students standing on the seats and another row standing between the rows of seats.

Let's face it, the students make most of the noise.

I wasn't at USC '79 or Florida '97, unfortunately. I might be the only Tiger fan to admit that...

There have been a bunch of loud games, but if we're talking about ear drum rattling, yelling in your neighbor's ear and he still can't hear you, hearing is muffled because your ears are ringing for a few hours after the game, two games come to mind for me:
UGA 2003 and Auburn 1995. There was something special for both of those games.

re: Loudest games in LSU history.

it's really hard to compare across decades but here are mine:

USC 79, nuff said

FSU 82, underrated fog and oranges

A&M 86, restart of series, ESPN night game, LOUD night

OSU 87, pre-game dust up, CBS national audience

Auburn 95, Bring back the magic game, very very under-rated, one of the loudest games I've heard anywhere

UF 97

UT 2000

UGA and Aubie 03

UF 07

Arky 11

Bama 12
