The teenager grabbed his father's assault rifle and knew what to do with it.

The article says he is the son of a deputy so this might not be wrong, but I'm guessing that the rifle was just a simple semi-automatic, not a select fire weapon capable of fully automatic fire.

Assault weapon in the house? Well I bet those kids were also fed a lot of food with trans fats. They need to be taken out of there ASAP for their own good.

Please educate me on how many fully automatic fire guns are out there... are those the guns being sold in ever gun store?

Gun control advocates will say this was the only reason the kid didn't end up shooting his sister, himself, the burglar, and the neighbors on accident and that those of use who don't have law enforcement parents can't be trusted to defend ourselves with guns.

His point is that calling an AR-15 an "assault rifle" is a misnomer.

It is a 'scary looking' semi-auto rifle...

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a fully automatic weapon without stealing it?

1) You have to register for it and take a class that is, i think, a week long.
2) Then, after extensive background searches, if you are selected, you must be interviewed by your local county/parish sheriff for approval.
3) If sheriff allows you one, you are subject to visits monthly by the sheriff, and at any point, he is able to revoke your license.

Ban kids without law enforcement parents.

that stupid immature kid could have killed what were probably just two neighbors from down the road just wanting to borrow some eggs to make cookies.

We need to ban children now. How many have to die?

The home owner is a sheriff's deputy. I'm pretty sure he can get the require documentation to purchase and own a fully automatic weapon.
