It is certainly a topic worth debating. You have to wonder what would happen if we did eliminate the income tax and simply relied on sales tax. If we run into another economic turndown, La would be in quite the pickle. In a way, we would be handcuffing the state's wellbeing to the health of the national economy. We would likely see an increase in property taxes to curb the risk.

I'm pretty sure sales tax in Arkansas is north of 9% and we have income tax of 7%.
