Best airlines rewards card?

Going to Rome in 2014 and I want to save as much as possible on the flight. Between my wife and I, flights will run around $3,000 total. What card should I choose? Airline doesn't matter to me but I'd prefer American. Thanks!!

The best airline rewards card is Southwest Visa.

However, for international trips, I'd look into the Capital One Venture card. That will probably be your best bet, as you get double miles and have choices of airline.

Us bank flex perks. If you get this please refer me. It is very easy to earn free flights. My wife and I have earned 5 in the past 3 years.

Delta Amex has a pay with miles feature. So if you got 50,000 in miles you could take $500 off your trip if you didn't have enough miles to redeem for the trip.

I get 10k miles if I refer you to the card so let me know.

Delta Amex doesn't do referrals anymore... Does it?

IMO, they used to be the best before they changed their point structure. Since the change, it's hard as hell to accumulate enough points to grab multiple flights. I'm sure there are better cards out there besides RR Southwest Visa. We put majority of all our expenses on the card and under this new system we only can get about three free flights per year whereas under the old system we were about to get about double that amount.

I'm considering switching to either the Capital One® Venture Rewards Credit Card or the Chase Sapphire Preferred

This. I've had mine for two years and I hate it.

For most flights out of New Orleans, they want 7-10K points one way

5000.

If he signs up he gets 10000. Then he gets his wife to sign up for 10000 the she uses him as a referral for 5000. 25000 pts. A flight = 20000 pts for any ticket up to $400.
