I had high expectations for a lot of our players leaving early. I wish them the best of luck in the NFL. But I think having some of these players leave is a good thing.

Kevin Minter- Was the heart of our defense and turned into a beast. Going to be a big key replacing him but with the linebackers we got in last years recruiting class I think we will be just fine. Ronnie Fiest or have Barrow move to middle linebacker. Other linebackers like Kwon and Debo and Lamar Louis showed they can make plays, and will fit in well with there speed. Even thought there undersized, they have the speed as some safteys. (Chavis style linebackers)

Eric Reid- Coming out the the 2011 season I had very high expectations for Reid. Thought he was the best safety in college football. But after seeing him this year, taking bad angles all the time and getting burned a lot in coverage. I think he is overrated coming into the draft. (still a great player I just think he is overrated) But filling in for Reid IMO might be a good thing. Seeing Ronald Martin play this showed me that he is just a player maker. Some might say he had some lucky plays off tipped passes but 2INT's and 1 FF on the year was impressive for his play time. And that 1 FF was in the Texas A&M game were we scored afterwards making it 14 to 12 at half for LSU. Also LSU has Corey Thompson and some other recruits in this years class that could step in , incase of injuries. So I think the Safety Spot will be good.

Tharold Simon I thought was going to be one of the top cornerbacks in the SEC. But he got burned to many times (a lot in Clemson game) and that showed me he was not ready for NFL. He has the potential but I think he should have stayed. Filling him in will not be bad. Jalen Milles and Jalen Collins both showed they could play and Tre White coming in is a stud.

Sam and Mingo were expected to leave. Great players. But there stats don't show up well up to Texas A&M's Moore. They did not have that many sacks this year. But still going to hurt having them gone. Rasco and Hunter will step in and do fine. Possible Herron and maybe even the number 1 recruit of the nation could come in the mix and that DE depth would be good.

Bennie Logan was a huge surprise to me. Guy was a beast but never really had the type of season he wanted. Going to hurt having him gone because he had so much potential but I think Freak and Ego will be fine on the DL.

So overall I think the defesive losses are not as bad as most people are thinking. I think it's sometimes a good thing when some players leave. Time for the young guys to step up and show everyone that there just as good or even better.

My Depth Chart for Defense

S-Craig Losten- Proved to be the hyped up safety he is coming out of high school. And didn't get injured.
S-Ronald Martin-Play maker (just makes big plays when he is in)
Cb-Jalen Milles/Dre White
Cb-Jalen Collins/ Rashard Robinson- Going to be better than last years CB's. I have Rashard and Dre White as backups possibly starters because there that good.
MLB-Barrow or Fiest
LB-Barrow/Debo
LB-Kwon/Louis - Going to have a really good linebackers. Heart of the defense IMO.
DE-Hunter
DE-Rasco
DT-Ego
DT-Freak-Not as good as last years defensive line but pretty good.

I agree with most of it. Only player that we don't have someone close as a replacement is Minter IMO.

Yeah sorry guys it was way to long. But it was the only way I could cover that information. Yeah Minter's spot is going to be the main key that dude was a beast.

I think there are always too many unknowns for anyone to say one way or the other. To do so is just to reveal your wishful thinking or cynicism. For example, at this time last year I thought Reid and Simon had potential to be top 15 picks by the end of the year. Both of them were exposed this year because of the lack of Claiborne and Mathieu (probably more Claiborne.) Sometimes removing one piece can have a domino effect. Minter very well could be that piece.

The defense will take a step back in my opinion. If we have another crappy offense we are in trouble.

I think minter will be most missed for sure. He was the leader on that defense and his experience in the middle will be missed.

we wont be fine. we'll be stuck in second place, at best, for the next few years and no one in the athletic department seems to care.

Yes all this info only applies to players. I still think we will get out coached as long as Miles is there. Miles just has had the talent to back him up. But all the other schools have the talent now.

Yeah I agree with you. Mathieu made the players around him play better with his swagger. But at the end of the day Im not a guy to make excuses for players. Ronald Martin didn't need Mathieu or Claiborne to make those big plays when he was in.

If you think a bunch of incoming freshman are going to be as good or better than 15 juniors who just declared for the NFL draft you are smoking some serious weed.

Do u no how 2 spel? Seriously, though. I don't disagree with many of your points, I just feel like you have lofty expectations for kids who haven't played much (if at all). Not just anyone can come right in and start in the SEC. LSU recruits well, but it takes more than just physical ability to execute at a high level.

...and he clearly wasn't just anyone. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but there's a reasons many kids take a redshirt or just play in blowouts in their first year. Seems like the OP expects us to have multiple guys be All-American caliber in their first year, and that's...bold.

Everybody loves Rasco, but the sad fact is he has no sacks despite playing at the end of games in passing situations. Mingo and Montgomery were beats. Very hard to replace their production.

Lol freshman have been coming in for years preforming better than juniors. Mathieu is a good example and theirs many more. Jeremy Hill? I know he is a redshirt but still. When your talking about LSU football there should be damn high expectations for freshman coming in lol or people 2nd string. And no I don't smoke weed. BTW look at Alabama, got freshman coming in playing like studs.
