Even though I knew what was gonna happen tonight because of damn spoilers it was depressing as shite.

Robert is in the dog house big time.

I also thought tonight was one of the best episodes in awhile. Even though a disastrous event was happening it felt a lot less "soapy" than the prior ones because the characters were driving the action. No miraculous paralysis healings.

Can't believe they made me feel bad for Thomas the sadistic footman.

I cannot believe they killed off Sybil. That was unnecessary. This is supposed to be a fun and entertaining show. I'm not supposed to feel utterly depressed after watching a tv show for crying out loud.

I thought this myself. I can't stand him but it made me upset to see him cry.

So I've already watched this Season 3 at the times it originally aired in the UK, but I was discussing last night's episode with a coworker who is now just watching. Without giving anything away, was there a US Broadcast of the 2011 post-season 2 Christmas Special?

This 90 minute episode shows Matthew and Mary getting engaged and Bates getting convicted, which shouldn't be a spoiler since season 3 episodes show the wedding and Bates in prison.

(please don't google Downton Christmas special as you might see spoilers from the 2012 post-season 3 Christmas special)

They're re-editing the BBC series for the U.S. broadcast. It appears that the Christmas Special was chopped up to air as a part of the regular series (as we saw M&M get engaged and Bates' conviction).

They did air the Christmas special here in the US. I think they combine the final 2 regular episodes into a 2 hour block and the air the Christmas special as a seperate episode in full.

And yes I agree with your last bit of advice. You don't want to know about the Christmas special if you haven't seen it yet.

Best part of the episode, especially since it was set up by him bragging about how he served in the hospital with Sybil, so he knew her better than anyone. Which lead to him dropping the facade with anna, "She wouldn't even notice if I died."

Heartbreaking moment for a thoroughly despicable character.

I love her so much.

Matthews mom on the other hand.

I was almost coming out of my seat wanting to punch the baby doctor. I was also hoping that Dr. Clarkson was going to punch him.

Man I love this show.

Maggie Smith is so good on this show. I feel like she is Rose Dewitt Bukatur's grandma and was supposed to be on the Titanic.

I thought I was most affected when Cora was at her bedside with her body- but when the Dowager came in and spoke to Carson and had that painful walk to the drawing room it conveyed more deeply felt emotion than any words. She is a consummate actor.
