Gun control: Latest ideas from the White House

LINK

Disturbing:

quote:

In addition to potential legislative proposals, Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries. Possibilities include changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

quote:

the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses.

quote:

A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

Never let a crisis go to waste:
quote:

Obama’s advisers have calculated that the longer they wait, the more distance there is from the Newtown massacre and the greater the risk that the bipartisan political will to tackle gun violence will dissipate.

I thought the maximum delay was 1 week, without a reason not to sell they have to allow the sell in 1 week...

Creation of a list is their obvious goal.

Scary

This will truly show if the electorate has fundamentally changed. Not even 15 years ago, this would have brought about political ruin.

If Obama survives pushing gun control through, it is safe to say original American ideals are gone, washed away with the demographic changes and growing dependence on government. Not to sound xenophobic, but is this not to be expected when you have so many people living in this country who were never taught American ideals?

I have no problem with either of these. Pretty pointless also and will likely affect us in no way.

So they will convince large retailers to not sell guns? Fine. More business for the small shop owners and any large retailer that agrees to this will no longer receive my business.

All "feel good" measures that will do nothing. Basically nothing to see here, no banning of weapons they will just pass more useless legislation to make it look like they did something. We can all breathe a sigh of relief and stop worrying about our guns being taken. That is, if the assault weapons ban doesn't go through. (which I don't think it will).

Taxpayer dollars as incentives not to sell or incentives to collect information on the buyers that isn't currently collected?

Brady Law says that an FFL may transfer the firearm after 3 business days without final resolution to the background check. Key word is "may"...they do not "have" to.

Academy doesn't sell you a gun unless you get a proceed on the background check.

This is also not correct. There is no "maximum delay." When you submit a background check, it generates a transaction number (NTN), which is good for 30 days. If you do not get a resolution within 30 days, and dealing with a place like Academy that only transfers with a "proceed", you would have to do an all new background check...fill out the form again, get another check done, etc. An FFL can't transfer a gun on an NTN that's over 30 days old. Considered an illegal sale by the ATF.

Why would you have no problem with the ATF increasing efforts to register and track our guns?

You some kind of commie?

So they are gonna bribe retailers to do what they say even though it won't be legislation???

If this goes through, I would LOVE to own a small gunshop... You will reap the benefits of this bull shite.

Because the media doesn't challenge the POTUS so he feels invincible. He is just going to keep pushing the limits and line. This is what happens when power goes unchecked!

academy is doing the 30 day wait. its not all gun stores. the clerks at the one near me were laughing about it. academy wants nothing to do with guns right now and cant take someone getting shot with their weapons. they will take the financial hit until this cools down.

Meh. I honestly thought they'd try to push for more. This seems that it is more for show. If this is the most that comes out of their crusade I think gun owners will end up being just fine.

Good question. Each time an executive order is issued a little bit more freedom erodes away.
