We have one experienced DE coming back (Rasco); we have a couple of veteran backups who were injured this year (Maclin and Allen); we have a young guy (Hunter) who has had great reviews; and we have about a hundred in next year's recruiting class.

Deep part of the team. Why get more?

Have confidence in the recruits that miles has already offered.

Oline, safety and rbs are biggest need next year.

Maybe lb too.

I wasn't aware that we ever played any 3-4. You may see some LBs rush from a 3 pt stance since Chavis likes to tinker. Saw some of that in 09 when we had issues rushing the passer.

With reid gone we really need cutrer to qualify or land willis. Because we will need help at safety.

We basically just reloaded the dline.
Patterson, neal, beckwith, bain, herron, gilmore, lawson.

For whatever reason, Chavis seems to prefer 3-3-5 packages more than he does 3-4-4 packages. On the Yeldon TD, he even had a 3-2-6 dime package going.

I've been saying this for months now, vandal Alexander is not a pass blocker... If they switched la'el and vandal it would be a much stronger and balanced line. And for who ever thinks that vandals pass protection issues are just because he's young. You're wrong. Pass protection is much more instinctive then most people think. Yeah he can work on his drop and keeping his shoulders square but he will not be able to improve dramatically. I would much prefer him to be at gaurd where if the dt goes inside he has center help and if the dt goes outside he won't have to worry about an inside move and can adjust. He just doesn't have the instincts to predict the move a de will make before he actually makes it. Wich puts him on an island. And at that point he's just too slow to recover

How does a 3-4 address a (perceived) shortage of DE's? Don't a 3-4 and 4-4 have the same number of DE's?

Thanks coach! We know anyone ever got better at pass protection through out their career. We should just call him a bust eh?

Not that I agree with the statement of playing some 3-4, but most 3-4 DE's are the size of some of our DT's. With most of the ends we recruited being OLB's. So I guess technically playing a three man front would be one option if we actually did have a shortage, but we don't have a shortage at all. So the fact that this was even suggested is retarded.

Perhaps shortage is not the best of words. We are losing a lot of experience. While we have some young (unproven players) we can't say for certain they'll be ready. I hope that they will.

This is really what I meant, but saying "three man lines" takes more space than 3-4. Sorry for my imprecision. It was late.

A DT in a 4-3 is closer to the role of a DE in a 3-4 than it is to the role of a DE in a 4-3.

Anyway... I guess we'll have to see if the young guys are ready. I am always nervous relying on them because they can take some time to develop. That being said, Chavis does good work getting them ready.
