Help me with a sound bar under $200

Looking to ditch my whole 7.1 surround set up for a sound bar and sub. Really don't care about the surround feel and audiophile type sound, just looking for better speakers than my Samsung has.

I barely spend time in the livingroom and really have no clue about home entertainment set ups.

Help out a noob.

You already have this?

Why would you downgrade to a sound bar?

I don't consider it downgrading in a sense, even though yes it would be considered that by most.

Just want less wires and want to simplify my living room set up. We don't have cable and barely spend anytime in the living room. Just hate the speakers and extra receiver.

My son seems to like the LG Soundbar I bought him from Sams. I think it was a touch over $200 and included Bluetooth and a separate subwoofer.

Please read my post above.

I have an HTPC and do not want another receiver in the living room. We do not have cable so I just want to make it as simple as possible. I just don't want all the speakers from my walls anymore.

I've got a $150 vizio hooked up a samsung plasma in our living room. Dramatically improved our sound.

I need to pick your brain on the htpc, had a couple of inquiries from customers looking to drop their cable

Cut the cord bro. We save $60 a month and that is just from basic cable.

If you just want a HTPC, just go with an APU. You want some type of decent graphics so you don't have screen tearing. Though our HTPC also downloads and compresses files so the APU makes the task difficult at times.

Also wish I would have purchased a case that had a 5.25" bay for a blu-ray player. I still have a couple of blu-rays I would like to watch so we still have the PS3 hooked up. I want to totally throw the PS3 away since it is from like 2007.. big bulky ugly PoS.

I'm going to cut cable once we move, but the current house gets no cell reception inside so we bundle for the free long distance telephone lol

I'll put together a build and create a thread once I'm off my phone

If all you're willing to shell out is 200, good luck bro. Just go to a store, cover your eyes and pick one. You're cheap arse shouldn't be allowed nice things anyways. Stepping down from a 7.1 to a soundbar.

Not really cheap just stepping down from clutter.

We rarely watch any television and that shtt just takes up space collecting dust.

Then why invest any money? Just step your 7.1 system to a 2.1. Keep your front left/right channel and sub. Switch you're reciecver to stereo sound mode. BOOM. Reduces clutter, saves money, and you still keep your speakers which are stil gonna probably be better than any cheap soundbar.

This would make the most sense to most people, but I think the OP is choosing aesthetics over performance. I guess a soundbar does look better than a few individual speakers, and it has less wiring. That or the OP's SO told him to get rid of all the damn speakers

re: Help me with a sound bar under $200

Valid point, but it's also necessary to know just how many components he has hooked up. Most low end soundbars I've seen don't have any HDMI inputs, the ones that do, have 2 at most. If he's got anything more then 2 HD devices hooked up he's gonna have to go straight to the tv and then that causes the issue of constantly having to switch the tv input. It just seems like he's wasting a lot of already spent effort and money by going to a soundbar. To your point of his SO telling him what to do then well....that's an entirely different can of worms that he needs to handle himself.

I've always tinkered with the idea about cutting cable, but I don't know how I'd get to watch my discovery and history channel shows...

Money isn't an issue. I can sell my system for probably 1/3 of cost.

My system goes like this, Samsung 55" LED and a HTPC. I do not need that reciever and shite. It gets dusty and just don't need it. I am looking to downgrade.

Can ppl stop saying keep the 7.1 system and/or why are you spending more money for a sound bar.

Like I previously stated, we RARELY and I must stress.. RARELY ever watch TV. Mostly just watch live sporting events streamed through the HTPC. I just want better sound than my Samsung has.

Cut the cord, there are tons of ways to get the media you want to consume. Hit me up on Steam.

I got rid of cable about 6 months ago. All I have is Netflix and Hulu plus. It's perfectly fine for me because most stations have an app you can watch their shows online, and with a little searching, you can find live streams of most tv channels online (i.e. espn, abc, CBS, etc).

You get it bro.

A little bit of everything you stated. It is we do not need the extra shtt around the house. I believe I could sell it now and get most of the cost back before it collects dust for 10yrs. The living room isn't our center piece in the home. We are always working, the SO's hobby is reading and I stay tinkering with gadgets.

Yep you can find everything online for free and live shows/games also. Really is awesome and glad we done so a while back.

Awesome having 60 extra bucks in your pocket.
