I've got a hand-me-down Remington 150th anniv. 30-06 Woodmaster 742 semi-auto from 1966 and from what I read it isn't anything special, but I might be able to refurbish it to hunt with.
Not Arms Merhcant, and preferably closer than Jims in BR(he is good btw)

Thanks.

Bill Berthelot in Slidell is an excellent gunsmith. He's in the phone book.

Just curious your thoughts regarding Arms Merchant? I'm in Mandeville so that would be closest to me, but if you have had problems in the past, I will look elsewhere as well.

SOB gonna jam no matter how clean you get it.

Jam-master, Hang-master, Hang-o-matic, etc...

I have one that was my Dad's and I'll never sell it, or shoot it.

i ain't saying this to be a smart arse, but has been my experience and several semi-old coots about my age that after they get a certain age on them they start to jam after the 1st shot... My advice would be to certainly keep the gun for sentimental value, but there is no reason (imo) to spend much money on a gun that will turn out to be a single shot that you have to have your pocket knife on standby to get the brass out of...

I have had great service at the arms merchant and have bought several guns there! I liked all the employees there and they seem to be very knowledgeable but he Is not a gun Smith there is one in lacombe and one in franklinton sorry I do not know there names .had a buddy use the Guy in franklinton and he was satisfied with the they can work done. Call arms Merchant and he can give you name and number i

Sorry, been away. Yes, Arms Merchant are very knowledgable and nice, but they are expensive and not much on the gunsmithing side. I took my shotgun with a synthetic stock to have cut to them and they could not do it, turned around and took it to Jims in BR and he did it no problem. Only thing is he's far.
That is what I have read is the Woodsmasters jam real easily. I am looking to add a rifle above 270 caliber and thought this would be perfect.

Maybe I will try anyway and see what happens.

90% of the problem with hangup is the magazine.
I have one and my father has two.
