Sony has patents on a RF tag that will prevent the use of 1 disk on multiple game consoles. This patent could kill game rentals!

RIP GameFly, we've had some good years together.

So fricking stupid, pay $60 for a game like Dishonored (short campaign) or a game like Homefront (sucked balls) and you're screwed.

Can't sell on eBay, stuck with a shitty game and no way to preview/try it out before you buy.

Will have to trust reviews.

I just signed up for it a couple of months ago and it has been one of my best decisions as of late. I hope they don't frick this up.

Not being able to buy used games is going to be costly

They better drastically bring down their prices, or go digital or something. That's going to be pretty ridiculous.
I'm not sure why they have this mindset. Wouldn't they rather someone buy the console even if to only play used games? At this point it just seems greedy

Not saying it won't but based on what?

We have no idea about the specifics of either system.

I will hold my judgement until we have official details from both Sony and Microsoft instead of just going off of all these rumors.

Because Sony and Microsoft sell the consoles at a loss for most of the product's life cycle.

Yea they make their money off of licensing fees and that's only on new games.

this is true, it takes around 5 years to make a profit on a console

i do not believe that M$ would do this used game ban though. They make enough money on live to offset the losses in early console life cycle.

if sony ends up doing this, M$ will not and corner the market for good

also.. if you actually think any of the console companies are doing this because THEY want to, you are blind and ignorant..

the console creators could give 2 rats asses about DRM.. it's the game developers that are pushing the hand of the console manufacturers. I expect all of these things to be "fixable" via "software update" and after Sony (and possibly Microsoft) realize that sales are 1/100 of previous sales... they will send a software update the "fix" the system.

and the people pulling the strings (the game developers) are going to be in for an extremely rude awakening when NOBODY buys their games because of this shite, and will ask Sony (and possible Microsoft) to take it off.

I don't really get the used game ban...nowadays, companies are even putting online codes on your games so that if you sell it or buy a used one, you have to pay to play it online if the code is used.

EA gonna EA.

I wonder how big of an effect this will have on game prices going down within 2 years of release. I picked up assassins creed 2 for $20 last christmas and enjoyed it the same amount i wouldve enjoyed it if i got it on release day. Without a used games market what is gonna drive the prices of games like that down. I dont really buy used games because the price difference isnt very big, i have sold quite a few games tho
