Can't wait for my return trip to Athens next year. I almost pulled the trigger on going to UGA twice, and then my sister did. I wouldn't call it a regret, but its nagged at me occasionally how that would have worked out either time.

re: Prospective LSU student... Help?

<--BatonRougePachyderm, transferred here from JeffState & UAB. Moved here 2 years ago. Let me know if you need any help/advice.

One thing I will warn you about is that many people forget (including myself) about LSU is the S. Make no mistake about it LSU is a state subsidized university. Now I'm not saying the UA and AU system don't get appropriations from the state, but it's a totally different world/system/school down here... for the negative. In my opinion, the education you can receive in Alabama, overall, is much better than in Louisiana.

I really wished I would have grad at UAB and then come down here, but women make you do cray thangs cuz. Luckily I'm not totally screwed because I fit nicely into the petroleum industry.

My opinions now about schooling is, if you can afford out of state tuition... spend it at a school for it's academics, not it's football team/greek life/parties/etc.

True. When you pair up with a random roommate, you really roll the dice, but it's the best way to meet people assuming you're not participating in some sort of a sport/club or if you're not in the band.

I'm on my last semester of college, but in 5 years I've had tons of roommates. My first roommate was a guy from my home town that I knew of because he was related to an ex-girlfriend of mine. Generally speaking, we got along, but he was a giant douchebag and eventually moved out shortly before flunking out of community college. My next roommate was a buddy I met in band. I never really had major problems with him, but he dropped out of school after the fall semester of my sophomore year.

For the spring, I got stuck with a roommate who had massive sleep apnea. I convinced a friend from high school who was deaf to swap roommates with me. He agreed, so my next roommate was actually another guy I knew from high school. Now this guy insisted on going to bed at 9:30 every night and had to have every light off in the dorm, including blocking the light from underneath the door. Needless to say, we did not get along.

When I transferred to a university, I got an apartment with a guy my age but who didn't currently go to school. He worked offshore, and I basically lived by myself every other month. He was probably the best roommate I ever had. He was extremely easy going and cooked all the time. He left after my first year at Miss State claiming to have gotten a new job in Texas. In reality, he skipped town to move back in with his parents in Louisiana. I still get letters and phone calls from collection agencies looking for him :P

My next roommate and I were apples and oranges. We got into an argument over his not paying me his portion of the electric bill then started calling me a racist. Management got involved and he moved out. Then, they tried shacking me up with this gay guy.

After all that, I just said screw it and decided to live my last year at college by myself.

Good luck sir

If you are considering a business degree, I would recommend ISDS. I had no idea what it was before I went to lsu as I was undecided for a year.

It's an easy, marketable major and you actually learn some helpful stuff especially in your later years. Do the internal audit program spring of your junior year. An IT audit background is very marketable these days. If you want to do business and can't stand accounting like me, do this.

And on the other side of things, have a blast and don't get a girlfriend freshman year at least.

Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is cut out for the university scene at first.

re: Prospective LSU student... Help?

I can't answer that, but I believe you should stay in a dorm for a year or two. You'll meet more people.

When I transferred to a university I wanted an apartment due to having more space and unrestricted internet. That's what I got, but I never really made friends with the neighbors. Everyone just kept to themselves. This wasn't the case in the dorms.

I actually started out at a community college with probably 65 percent of my graduating class at that school. I was in the band, so I met tons of people through the there, but I really ended up with my main friend group as a result of becoming good friends with the roommate of this guy I knew from high school. If not for my high school friend, I never would have met the guy.
