I guess the day of the student athlete is dead. I can see leaving if your goingmin the first 50 or so picks. Other than that, stay in school and try to improve your draft status. I know there are injury risks, but it seems that everyone leaves as soon as they get a chance. Is that an indictment of our program or is just the type of kids we get? Are they getting advice from our coaching staff about staying?

Jordan Jefferson's little brother tweeted that Simon, Reid, and loston were gone ecstatically. Does he think he's starting or something? So that's great I guess he doesn't want to have the help of any experienced guys when he gets here. Sounds like he's almost as concerned with his team as his selfish brother.

No. We just have good players that want to get paid. It would be like someone offering you a winning lottery ticket and you saying no thanks.

Maybe the slotted rookie payscale makes it more reasonable to come out early? Sure you get more money the higher you go, but the huge paydays with a ton of guaranteed money are gone. Maybe the thought process is get the clock ticking on the rookie NFL contract ASAP so the player can get to his 2nd NFL contract and get thebig money a year sooner. Maybe lsu is cutting edge in this approach?

Exactly. You can always go back and get your degree so I don't fault anybody for leaving early to get paid.

Reid, Mingo, Montgomery- all were expected to leave prior to this year
Simon- surprising but looks like he could be a late 2nd or 3rd round pick (doubt his stock would improve drastically)
Loston- a head scratcher, cant dfefend this one ha
Ware, Ford- their stock isnt going anywhere with the stable of backs now ahead of them on the depth chart
Wing- ranked as the #1 punter on the board and looks to be a 5th round pick

The amount of juniors we have leaving is indicative of the talent we sign and our staff coaches up.Yes, its unfortunate from a fans standpoint but this is what happens when you sign top 10 talent year in and year out. It can only excite future recruits about our program:
1. stud recruits want/expect to play early and often
2. proves to them that our program is a spring board to the NFL

(fun fact, since 2006, no other SEC program has had more NFL draft picks.. yes even more than Satan down in T-town)

Overall, The Chief is still running our Defense so quit worrying. We had a lot of freshmen get PT this year. Our Offense, however, anemic it may seem at times will be greatly improved next season. Look at the Bama or SC game when our OLine won the battle in the trenches, if they play as they are expected, our offense runs great. The o-line hopefully wont be getting shuffled so much this year and all other starters return.

Agree with your thoughts on Loston. He was one of our more improved players. IMO, he could really improve his draft status if he stayed and continued to improve at the same rate.

I realize this if off-topic but until there's a paradigm change in our O philosophy, even with Mett, OL stability, etc I see no reason to expect significant improvement in our productivity.

Assuming you know you are going to get drafted, I don't see the point in trying to improve your draft status any more. The rookie salary scale really reduces the payoff of staying.

LSU DEs Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery and DT Bennie Logan will all declare for the NFL draft together according to sources.

Ford can still improve his stock as a kick returner and special teams contributor.

It wasn't until mid season that he started returning kicks and he's done an excellent job with it so far.

If he finds a way to improve in pass protection, he could dramatically improve his draft stock.

I doubt he gets enough PT to improve his stock as a RB. and I dont think an NFL team would be using him as a returner

Randle didn't return kicks or punts at LSU and the NYG were using him for that. We have a lot of players who can be very effective on special teams returns.

he was eventually passed over by other players...in 2011 we had HB7 & OBJ on it. Maybe the staff wanted to protect him from injury, but then I'd think you wouldn't have Claiborne returning kickoffs either.
