What Do Conservatives Think About GTMO and The NDAA Provisions?

I'm not talking about the signing statement or his earlier promise not to use one.

Do you think we should close GTMO? What about bending DP principles to detain those accused of terrorism and aiding terrorists, even if they are American citizens?

Do you believe the legal avenues that give GTMO its power are essential to American security in this modern age?

I personally say keep it open and give American prosecutors all the help they need when trying anti-Americans. But, this is where I compromise my beliefs from standard libertarians, because I am very pro-military.

I'd be curious to know the liberal point of view as well, but I don't believe they are too prevalent on this board.

I'm not surprised that Obama would try to grab more power, but I am baffled that Republicans would want to give Obama this sort of power.

Most that I know see GTMO as a necessary evil, but NDAA as a huge step over the line. The Conservatives I know have completely soured on the Patriot Act despite having supported it when it was enacted. Most didn't realize until later just how much was in it.

ANYBODY who is elected to make and pass our laws, and makes and passes a law without knowing what is in it, should be, at worst, removed from office, if not imprisoned. Yet it happens daily.

Not this one, I was against it from the beginning. Surrendering freedom, liberty, privacy ect. in the name of security is very dangerous imho.

Now having said that and after reading decision points, I do understand why that legislation was pushed, I just disagreed with it is all.

You have to pass it to know what's in it.

Had no idea libertarians were against the military.
