Here is a question posed by ahigh school kid on another forum I hang out at..

quote:

to be a freshman,(in each D1 D2 D3 level):
How much should I bench press?
How much should i squat?
40 time? etc

He said his experience is Oline and LB.

Are there any good sites with some "stats" of current college players? Maybe past college kids "pro day" workout results???

totally wrong approach

it matters how skilled he is at his position. he should focus on that

It's not a combine

If he can ball, and do it at camps.. He will turn heads. 40 times and height are a plus though

Doesn't matter

They don't come watch you lift weights

of course being a freak in the gym helps but a lot of guys come in pretty soft. If you can do it on the field they will make you stronger. Being tall also helps.

350's+,500's +,4.8-4.9 if lineman, faster if not. Like other poster said needs to be very proficient at the position also.

Good Film beats any lifting stats. Height and weight are big pluses too. Then 40 time, shuttle time, then maybe squat or power clean. Just about every recruit lies on 40 and lifting max.

Just best guess from guys who went to play major college football from my high school. Could be off a little bit.

Of course he has to be talented, but let's not just brush off these metrics like they don't matter at all. He can be a savvy LB with high tackles/sack numbers, but he's gotta have the weight and speed for the next level.

Pretty big difference if he's going to play Oline vs LB...

Colleges rely on tape more than anything. Most numbers are fudged as frick anyway but high school coaches so combine numbers mean nothing.

Plus i knew plenty of guy that could pull a fricking train but were terrible football players

Is that seriously the norm for D1 lineman these days?

height and weight do matter, but he cant really control that too much

how much he can lift matters very little

I would say Dline would probably have similar stats esp. those interior guys. Oline probably not that fast.

There are so many more variables vs just some std benchmarks. ESP for oline. Arm length. Feet movement. Size. Coaches will think they can get you in there offseason program and fix any weakness in strength. However. They need to see the potential is there to do this. If they know the hs and its offseason program and it is good and you are still weak it will raise questions. If you are in a program with a weak offseason program they will look to see if they can work with you. Oline used to always be a sit out a few years before you are a starter. Now it is a mixed bag with improved hs programs.

1.5 bw squat and 1.5 bw bench? Why the same? You should be able to squat way more than you bench...
