Spags came here with a good reputation as a DC. I just can't see him getting fired after one season, especially considering the turmoil that plagued the team all season.

Would Crennel be a good choice? Sure. But Spags seemed like a good choice too. I think he gets at least one more year to right the ship.

There is a 1% chance he gets canned. Don't hold your breath.

I'm not calling for his head but he did oversee the worst defense in NFL history.

Giving up the most yards in a season doesn't not equal worst defense in NFL history.

You can dance around it but it was a historically shitty defense.

It was a bad defense, but this "Worst defense in NFL history" meme is driving me up the wall. Yardage given up is not the end all be all measure of a defense. Points per game and turnover ratio are more accurate indicators, and even those don't tell the whole story.

We had no head coach and a sputtering offense who couldn't run the ball and had serious pass protection issues. As bad as the defense was, the numbers were inflated. The defense improved, helping us win some games with critical stops and turnovers, and also kept us in some games despite the offense turning into an turnover machine.

Yes, the year sucked, and it's easy to just chalk it up to "Oh we had the worst defense in NFL history," but I'm not staring into the red light and forgetting everything that happened. Some of those guys on defense performed all season and played their asses off and don't deserved to get thrown under the bus for the entire season.

You think other shitty defense were operating under perfect situations?

Sure but for the great majority of the season they sucked balls.

That was one game.

Like 3 of them had good seasons. Calvin Johnson was a beast on '08 Lions but everybody goes down with the ship.

GTFO with that shite man. You know damn well no other team in the history of the NFL has been through the shite we've just been through this year. The shite dragged on and on and on.

The Payton issue I'll agree with sure but the sputtering offense, couldn't run the ball, and pass protection issues being a problem for the defense? That's bullshite excuses.

Are you serious? You know how many three and outs we had? Even good defenses (which we didn't have) will break. I'm done.

ETA: Well maybe not. Prime example: the KC. If the offense get's one FG drive in the fourth quarter we win that game. I think our last positive play that game was a 6 yard gain with 13 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The Chiefs ran like 90+ plays that game. That's insane.

Our defense is consistently crappy every year regardless of coordinator. It's time to face facts. Our defensive players are shitty and our Front Office/Staff can't draft defense to save their lives.

We are an offensive juggernaut with a ridiculously offensive minded head coach. We are what we are. We don't need a 49ers, Steelers or Ravens type of D to win championships. We need a defense that creates opportunities for our offense and can get that ONE stop we need. This is why we won our first ring. That defense was statistically not that great, but we were 2nd in turnovers. 2nd in the league in getting one of the most deadly offenses in the league the ball back. I think that is a stat that gets overlooked.

Any defense would kill to have a Top 5 offense on the other side for them.

Or if the defense doesn't give up 250+ yards rushing and 510 yards total. That's 510 yds to a 2 win team.

Our offense was nowhere near the Top 5 the first part of the year.

And even when our offense picked up, we started having turnover and redzone problems towards the back stretch. Just like the defense, yards isn't everything.

So top 10 then? Whereas our defense was bottom 3 the entire season but I'm sure that was the offense's fault.

Saints were 2nd in the league in red zone TD%. Drew has his turnover problems in 3 games, the D was good in one of those(Atlanta), ok in another(SF), and terrible in the last(Giants).

That shite goes both ways. Is it the defenses fault that Drew threw 19 ints? Did the defense make our receivers drop all those balls? The defense was bad, but this season isn't all of them, and they were NOT the worst defense of all time.

We win even one of those games and I bet the whole team play their asses off in the last game of the year instead of packing it in.

Any rational person will realize that the only game where the offense was more culpable for the loss was the Falcons and 49ers game.

The offense scored 38 Sunday, obviously they didn't pack it in.
