Looking ahead to 2013 season

Miles made the comment that the 2013 offense might be his best yet. Granted, that's probably something over 90% of coaches will say about "next year", but how much is in place for it to be true?

What we have coming back:
1) a QB in Mett who seems very skilled, and made a lot of progress over the course of the season. He went from a big liability in the early games, to the reason we won or stayed competitive from the Bama game on; and he was asked to win the bowl game at the end (the infamous 3 pass drive that failed).
My guess- Mett should be at least as competent in game 1 next year, as he was in the 2nd half of this season. That should help a lot, and if he continues to progress, he might just be special by this time next year.

2) Running backs. None of the upperclassmen have done anything to seriously suggest they should leave early, so depth should continue. Hill will come in as the established starter, with a yr under his belt (as compared to coming off a nightmare year of not being on a team, and with ugly legal issues dominating his life), so he should be in better condition, and a better back.

3) O-line. Many injuries led to many guys playing early this year, maybe before they were ready. as tough as it was this season, it should make the line stronger next- lots of experienced players who now know what is required firsthand. I expect the line to be at least a non-factor (in other words, they won't be a reason why we lose a game), with the exception of maybe against a team like Bama- and honestly, the line held up well against Bama this season, so I think they will do so next too.

4) Receivers- will be key. Landry has emerged after a painful start to this season, so let's hope he continues to develop into our next D Bowe. Beckham- he took a step back, but there is a reason the phrase "sophomore slump" has been coined; it happens a lot. Let's hope he also returns to form. His freshman yr, he was a reliable 2nd WR. This year, he showed promise of big play ability. If he can become a reliable WR WITH big play ability, then things will be a whole lot easier for everyone else.

re: receivers, it would be nice to have a tight end. Seeing as how the NFL loves them some basketball TEs, maybe our football recruiters can tag along with Johnny Jones on the road (seriously). There has to be a couple of 6-5 forwards and centers in Louisiana and the surrounding area who are athletic, but can't play bball on the college level, maybe they can't score on anything other than a dunk. Let's put pads on a couple and see if they can catch the fricking football. Tell them- you can't be the next LeBron, but you might be the next Jimmy Graham.
