I couldn't find a website to answer my question so I figured my OB brothers could help.

My dad and I both got the Redfield 52mm scopes for Christmas to put on our new hunting rifles. I'm trying to figure out how tall the rings need to be to clear a space between the scope and the barrel. Looking at Leupold High and Super High.

Any ideas?

The only way I can think of to be able to tell for sure is to the distance you need from the bottom of the tube to the top of the base and measure the rings in the store.

Bring it to a sporting good store and let them put it on.

Yeah I kind of figure that would be the best answer. I would've thought someone, particularly Leupold, would have developed a guide or chart to tell us exactly what to use.

It very much burns my arse that there is no better way to do it that I know of.

A gun shop may let you rough-fit some mounts to see what you can get away with.

I've got 56mm scopes on my Encore and Savage. I'm not sure if I put high, or extra high, on the Savage, but I definitely put the high on the Encore, and I like the way it looks and sits.

I used the DNZ DedNutz one piece for the Encore, and Leupold two piece for the Savage. I'll be changing the Savage to the DNZ's or Talley one piece mounts in the off season.

I would think highs might do it, but super highs definitely would. And you CAN do it yourself, but you've got to have some special tools to do it. Better to just go where the tools are and have them done for you then you don't have to guess.
