When will the secondary get a lot of the blame ?
Posted by colt raven on 1/1/13 at 2:24 pm00
Face it they had issues all year. Simon never developed into the player everyone thought he was . The freshman on the other side never could figure out how to get his head around . Loston ran around just looking for someone to blow up couldn't cover or help out on anyone . Reid the all American my arse. He surely didn't look like last year & a new coach that had his first year . LSU lost all 3 games because of poor pass defense . Like it or not a lot of the problems go to them .

Losing a top of the line secondary coach can do that

Yep, let's blame the unit that was on the field all day in Gainesville and for 100 plus plays last night.

The secondary is young. When you lose Peterson then continue with Claiborne then unsuspectingly lose your guy in matheiu, it happens. That guy will be there next year. I think j mills will step up. He's just a freshman.
Hopefully we can swing p Willis to be that guy the in the future.

There's about one or two schools that wouldn't trade their defensive backfield for ours.

If the secondary could stop this they wouldn't have been on the field for 100 + plays . The all American got beat that could've ended the game . That's where real all Americans step up in the big games & plays .

Martin is the best cover safety. We play a pass happy team and les/chavis just completely forgets he's on the team

Secondary was poor all year long. The D line and LB'ers covered for them much of the year, but when the D'line wore down late in the season, the secondary was exposed.

When the offense decides to show up.

The secondary was young and there were some really bizarre issues with their play that I don't know if they were due to bad scheme or bad individual understanding of the position. During the Clemson game our CBs were routinely playing 10 yards off the line to prevent he big play. That's a fine game play against an explosive team, but you can't just cede first downs with 2 minutes left and the opposing team only down by a field goal. There were so many first down passes that game that we didn't even contest because the defenders were starting out past the sticks.
But even a perfect defense will get bit sometimes. Even the best secondaries will give up passing plays. QBs will make perfect throws, receivers will get open, and teams will move the ball, especially if you give them 100 chances a game.
You MUST have an offense that can put points on the board and take time off the clock. Counting on your defense to be perfect every game is a recipe for disaster.

Simon is a very good corner, however the 2 jalens were about average, and the two safeties seemed to be average against the pass, but great against the run. Fortunately we already have a commitment from Tre'davious White, and if we can snag Priest Willis, those 2 guys would improve our secondary the moment they step on campus

Been saying this all year to my buddies but they chalk it up to youth.
Imo Cooper also had young players and is much > than Raymond

REALLY??? He got fricking beat all year !!!! The only thing that made him so great is Mathieu helped him out all year last year & Claiborne was the other corner . WAKE UP PEOPLE !!! This secondary sucks !!!!!
