Predict where the markets will be one year from now!

To be eligible for the Grand Prize at the end of the year, you must make a prediction in each of the categories below. You can choose to not make a prediction in some of the categories and still be eligible to win individual category medals. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals will be awarded for each category plus an overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for Best Overall predictions.

Winners in individual categories will decided by having a prediction with the smallest deviation from the actual 2013 year end prices. The overall winner will be determined by having the smallest average deviation from actual prices for all the categories below.

All predictions must be posted by January 10, 2013 and no edits to predictions after that date are allowed.

For 2012, the overall winners were:

Overall Best Average Predictions:
Gold Medal: PlanoPrivateer: 9.16% average deviation
Silver Medal: C: 9.20% average deviation
Bronze Medal: lynxcat: 10.02% average deviation

All of the 2012 prediction results are here: LINK

I think the markets are poised for a sustained recovery from the recession now that most of the political uncertainty has been put to rest. The Dow will surpass its 2007 high of 14,000 and approach 15,000. It's time to be bullish.

You're going to have to be more specific than that if you want to play with us.

Okay, I've entered your predictions on my spreadsheet. If you change any of them before the 1/10 deadline, be sure to post about it so I will notice and make the changes on my spreadsheet.

The same goes for acgeaux129 if you make changes.

Both of you are more optimistic about the US's economy this year than I am and I hope you're right.

Good luck!

I'm extremely optimistic for the year to come. I think we see all time highs in the equity markets and we see inflation in the commodity market (I know I've been calling for this for a while, but I think it's coming). Interest rates are kept low and will start heading up in late 2013/early 2014.

Is someone else bidding 12974.98?

I hope I'm wrong, too.

I probably am just because I am currently very pessimistic about the political clusterfrick on the budget in congress. I reserve the right to edit my predictions up to 1/10/13 if we see a political breakthrough before then.

However I do believe any tax increases, either from the fiscal cliff "solution" or those required under Obamacare, are going to dampen economic growth in 2013.

I've added Lookin4Par, BigBoyTiger, LSU0358, C, threeputt, djmicrobe and saving$ predictions to my spreadsheet.

Again, if any of you change any of your numbers before the 1/10/13 deadline, please make a separate post about the changes or you risk me not seeing your changes.

I will copy and paste the spreadsheet in a post after the 1/10 deadline passes so you can proofread what I've entered for everyone. I'm not the most accurate typist. That's why god created secretaries.

I plan on posting periodic updates of the to-date results of our predictions as the year goes on.

We now have 10 persons participating. We need at least 5 or 6 more financial gurus to make their predictions to give us a real good spread.

C'mon, TD.com Money Talk geniuses, JUST DO IT!

Russian,
I don't think we are diverse enough in what we are predicting. How different will the deltas be for each of the major stock indicies? Treasuries? Oil and gasoline? To me this puts too much weight in those areas unless you think more weight should be on those areas. Why is the Euro more important than asian currencies? Anyways, just food for thought. I probably should have said something before the end of the year as the cats out of the bag now...
