He was part of the Mike Dubose regime. Not a chance.

No, Smart would take over or we'd hire the best coach possible. The AD will never settle for anything less than the best again. No more Shulas or Prices.

Shula or Price is not Dabo though.

I think he'd request an interview, but I think Bama is a little detached to the "he played here" mystique.

Bama doesn't have to look to an alum to take the job at the level they are at now. When Coach Bryant and Coach Shula were hired, the program wasn't exactly great. They can actually get their foot in the door with some top flight coaches if need be.

If he were to be hired, it would be based off his coaching ability. But I don't think him playing there has a positive or negative effect on his chances of getting the job...

Like I mentioned in my initial post, I've spoken to some connected folks that feel his ties to the Mike Dubose regime hurt him badly.

If true, I think that's a tad odd to condemn him for being an assistant on a certain head coaches' staff over a decade ago.

Unless there is some instance regarding him specifically I'm overlooking early in this new year...

Dabo, on paper, would be a greater hire than Gene Stallings was. Stallings was garbage at A&M and Arizona but did really well in Tuscaloosa.

Absolutely. Dabao is a great coach but I think Kirby would get the nod if it happened while he was still at BAMA. I may be wrong but I think Saban will have some input on who takes his place.

This is never a good idea.

Do you have any idea who Saban recommended to replace him at LSU?

If you don't know, you will never guess.

Houston Nutt had a great resume in 2004. It was all down hill after 2006.

Not really.

My point is its never good to let a out going coach have a say in who the new coach will be. That shite never works. Skip Bertman basically named his replacement when he retired at LSU and that was a disaster. I cannot think of one situation where it worked.

This is what should happen. He has been with Saban so long he is practically Nick 2.0

Bama was kind of hamstrung because of the NCAA with both these hires but not sure Price wouldn't have had success if he could have stayed out of the strip club. The guy had a pretty impressive resume at Washington State and that's not an easy place to win.
