I'm going to take a trip and tour some of the distilleries in March and was wondering if anyone on here has done it yet.
If so, can you recommend a place to stay for a night or two? And which distilleries were your favorites? It doesn't have to be an "official" one on the trail. Thanks!

I enjoyed touring Maker's Mark and Woodford Reserve. I lived there at the time I did the tours so I can't really help w/ accommodations.

We went during the lsu/Kentucky game few years back... Stayed in Lexington obviously. Pretty central location
Makers mark is the holy grail. Beautiful grounds and awesome tour
Skip wild turkey, it's a dump
Recommend woodford reserve and buffalo trace too.

I will definitely tour the buffalo trace distillery one day. They put out superb products.

Out of the official bourbon trail, those are the only two worth a visit. As for accommodations, I slept on the ground at Wild Turkey, but we were in a running relay and they had a camp ground set up for us.

Thanks for the advice. Makers Mark and Buffalo Trace are definitely on my list.

Makers is in Lebanon KY which is about an hour from Lexington or Louisville. Not a bad drive from either. When you go make sure to eat at Missy's out of the way cafe. Pretty good food not far from the area. Now both are off the beaten path a little but worth checking out.

If you have time to get down to Tennessee to the Jack distillery it is a good tour. No samples though. Dry county.

What area did you live? I lived up there too for a while.
