re: I don't understand people who play slots at casinos

I use that all the time. Not a true martingale, but increasing bet size until I bust. Can't due a true martingale playing BJ due to doubles and splits, but I use it all the time. And last year, I would go to a casino about once or twice a week to meet up and start the night off with a few free drinks and a little entertainment from like 8-10pm before everybody got out to the bars/clubs.

My martingale would involve taking in $1-$2k and trying to win $200-$400. Once I got up that amount, I would quit or go from a $25-$50 table to a $10 table. Result is win few or several hundred 3-4 nights out, lose it all one night out.

Overall you lose no matter what. The Martingale is fun for me, but it doesn't really matter. No system works due to gambler's fallacy, which about every system is based on to an extent. The Martingale especially.

I've been guilty of playing with a modified version as well, but the shite doesn't work with out a good deal of luck. 10 hand losing streaks happen and the table maximums kill the strategy even with an unlimited bank roll.

Yeah, it makes me lose more in the long run honestly because I have been caught on a bet after losing a bunch in a row where the "book" calls for a double or a split and I don't have enough to do it. One time though I did hold the entire table up by making the dealer wait while I went to the atm to get enough cash to double or split something. Also, fricks you up not knowing what to do when you end up with several splits in one hand and some doubles. Overall, it is a dumb system to use on BJ due to what I just noted. Every hand stands on its on and no system really means shit, but the martingale will cause greater losses in BJ due to splits and doubles after a bunch of losses. I just like it because I "feel" like I am doing better due to winning most nights (but losing huge when I lose).

I once lost 16 in a row betting sports and using a modified martingale system.

I used to work at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas... no such thing as a beatable casino game, for the most part.

There are only 3 ways a casino won't have an edge over you.

1. Counting cards in blackjack, but with the advent of cut cards, multideck shoes, and automatic shufflers, its pretty much impossible. There are some casinos in Las Vegas like the El Cortez that has a single deck no shoe/shuffler game, but the pit bosses eye you like a hawk any time you increase the size of your bet and will shuffle the deck as soon as you do.

2. Some special programs for "members" of a casino's "players club" will offer incentives like 100%+ payback on video poker.

3. Some deuces wild machines have full pay tables that pay back 100.6%, but you have to find the full pay table first.

Even then, a payback of 100%+ does not guarantee winning. Variance can still kill you.

Other than that, every game in a casino will beat you in the long run.

Bally's has this as well. Played at the table several months ago. I was the only one at the table, the limit was low too. I think the max bet was only a few hundred. And yeah, when you vary your bet they shuffle. I played like 3-4 hands then moved on.

I love Blackjack but there always seems to be someone pissed at how someone else plays because they have some notion of how everyone is supposed to play, and I ain't got time for that shite.

People who complain about how others play are morons, its mathematically proven that how another person at the table plays has NO EFFECT on your results over the long run.

People will get mad at me when I hit a 16, saying I am screwing them over, but the odds and percentages are the same over the long run.

I can't believe no one has come here raving about the martingale strategy yet.

I've yet to see anyone try it in a casino, but if it happens I'll piss my pants. I still can't believe people ever bought into that.

It's a bad strategy to use in the long run. Casinos will actually encourage you to use it.

This UNLV math professor shits all over the Martingale and other "systems"

LINK /

He said he will pay anyone $25,000 if they can show him a foolproof betting system that shows a profit over the long run. So far no one was been able to beat him on his offer.

I actually think I came out ahead in Casinos in 12'... That being I only gambled about 20% of the time I went and can almost remember walking out way ahead over 50% of the time...

I used a mini martingale system in baseball though, because at one point of the last season the Yankees had covered the run line in the first 5 innings in every single series they had played over the year. I rode this trend with a mini martingale and made a small profit.

Honestly the best way to beat a casino is not to play any of their games, and if you do, expect to lose. I haven't sat down at a blackjack table or any other casino game in Las Vegas in a long time. I only bet sports now, and even then I only bet on plus money baseball wagers, WNBA, and college basketball. No football.

By far the easiest and most profitable sport to bet on

I hit WNBA sides and totals at a 61.4% clip this past season

Outta all the things to bitch about, that's the dumbest thing I've heard. 16 is no man's land, just be consistent. Either hit OR stand everytime IMHO.

I was wondering if someone would bring that one up. He was a high enough roller that he was able to negotiate special rules that you and I will never see. Things like a blackjack paying more than the usual. Not really the same game you and I play.

Makes sense, you want a betting market where there aren't as many participants.

Not trying to flame the WNBA, it's just true. If you want an edge it helps to not have lots of competitors.

I do good at the casino. I know I am up on them overall.

My horse racing wagers are a different story though.

Good info, I didn't realize that. I think it's nuts that he played $100k a hand and was dealt a pair of 8's with a dealer showing 5. Split and caught a 3 and 2, and was able to double down. Gets me hard everytime.
