Payton knows nothing about building a roster on Defense, and neither does Loomis. Nobody in the Saints FO knows how to build a D roster, and, that's why the FO needs to hire a Consultant to aid Payton and Loomis in building a D roster.

So bringing in Sharper and Vilma wasn't a brilliant move?

The biggest issue this year was not having Payton. Getting him back will fix most but not all the problems.
Thats a trap I hope the FO doesn't fall into.

I'm sure they won't.

I mean, y'all want the FO to make some good moves on D, but how can they prove it to you with no draft picks?

I think our Free Agency Defensive picks lately have been very good.

We have plenty draft picks. All they took this year is a 2nd rounder

Then, we should be saving this discussion until then, right?

The FANS attitude towards my statement is as it should be -- angry and defensive. I have no problem with that.

What the OWNER and the HEAD COACH should say to each other when they sit down for their first meeting is this:

"This is a BAD football team. The franchise overall has had some bright spots, but, let's not suck each other's dicks off just yet, because, overall, this franchise is, based on it's long history: mediocre."

The offense is excellent, with room for improvement. That's the good news. The bad news is that we have failed to build an NFL-caliber Defense. We have failed for years.

We need to try to understand WHY we failed. If we can't figure it out, let's bring in a Consultant or SOMEBODY who can help us build a roster on Defense.

We do NOT have a Dynasty. We WANT to build a Dynasty, so, let's identify our weaknesses and correctly them DECISIVELY, so that we can get back on the road to excellence.

We are a bad football team right now. Let's make damn sure that this does not become our identity, as a football team. "

This is the kind of thinking that we need from the Owner and FO right now.

You mean the same discussion we've been having since 2007? Thats the point...

Let me get this straight, Champagne.

We're not a dynasty.
Therefore, we're mediocre.

Then, all 32 teams are mediocre in your opinion.

I guess you and I are completely different kinds of fans then.

I don't assume the worst until I'm proven wrong.

Sharper and Vilma were well past their prime when we got them. They were proven talents. The FO didn't need ESP to see this.

It may have been "wise" to bring them aboard, but to characterize this as "brilliance" in building a D roster? That's a stretch.

But, to be sure, both of these HoF - caliber defensive pro football players have given the Saints 110 percent, and, I will always be grateful to them for this.

Proven wrong?!?!?!?! They've proven us all wrong for years.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me 5 seasons in a row?

Yeah, I guess we are different types of fans...

We won a fricking Superbowl 3 years ago. We don't need an incredible defense, we need a decent one.

What is the W/L record today of the New Orleans Saints?

Isn't it mediocre?

What is the W/L record of this franchise since 1967?

Is it one of the superior franchises in NFL history?

If I am an Owner or Head Coach, my objective is to build a superior NFL franchise -- a Dynasty of Conference and Super Bowl Championships.

We are mediocre compared to where we want to be.

I don't want Saints Fans to stop being proud of the team or to stop loving the Saints. I am speaking from the perspective of what the Professionals running the franchise should be thinking.

We Saints fans can be happy with our team right now. Fine. There's lots to be happy about. But the Pros running the team? The head coach and the FO? They should be absolutely disgusted and extremely angry and dissatisfied.

And I don't take it personal that lots of fans want to bash me right now. I understand the desire to defend the home team. On the other hand, any and all of the employees and players of this franchise right now need to be absolutely disgusted and angry.

Once again, you are absolutely free to think what you want.

As am I.

But if you call us a mediocre franchise, I will take you to task on that.

Understand the desire for accuracy.
Then seek it out.

I'm sure our FO meets up every week and says, "Oh frick! 40 years ago we sucked balls! There's gonna be a fan out there who is gonna be mighty pissy if we don't make up for the bad years this season."

Dude, we're 3 years removed from a Super Bowl with all the ramifications of a Bounty shaft. We didn't get the much needed second round pick last year and had a ton of distractions.
SP is back next year and so is Drew. Many teams would froth over that potential. We're back with a serious vengeance next year.

The New Orleans Saints NFL franchise has a losing record for the regular season. This franchise has a losing record for the post-season.

To say that the overall record of success for this franchise is "mediocre" is being kind. When you have a losing record for regular season and playoff games, one could argue that you are actually LESS than "mediocre."

. . . and as for the TEAM right now? It's a bad football team.

Spoken like a good fan. I have no problem with your thoughts. I like the way you think.
