what a crappy thread.

How good would NE be without Brady and Belichick? Those two men seemed to have changed that franchise too. Where's the NE is a mediocre franchise thread? They were pretty bad for a number of years too...

And bottom 3 on defense during that same period.

Again:
2006: 11th in yards per game, 13th in ppg
2007: 26th yards per game, 25th ppg
2008: 23rd in yards per game, 26 in ppg
2009: 25th in ypg, 20th in ppg, 2nd in turnovers forced and scored a shitload of TDs
2010: 4th in yards per game, 7th in ppg, offense sucked
2011: 24th in yards per game, 13th in ppg, played well enough to win 13 games

So you have one terrible defense this year, two bad ones in 2007/2008, an average one in 2011, good one in 2006, and very good ones in 2009 and 2010. Methinks some of you have very short memories.

This. Defense actually played well in the SF and Atl losses. Turnovers cost us those games.

You are such a fricking dumbass. No other NFL team had more victories than the saints since Payton era. None. Not one.. heading into this season..

Sorry Bounty gate BS was a bit much to overcome for a season.

Bottom line is get Brees some help ASAP before he gets any older. Running game has to improve and Defense needs 4 or 5 néw starters that are gang busters

No shite the team needs help.

That doesn't mean the OP is right.
Or anywhere close to right.

I disagree somewhat.

This is a poor team this year but a solid franchise moving forward .

You way overrate the Saints history before Payton/Brees.

It was a horrific team with a dismal history. The Saints were voted at one time the worst professional team of any kind in history. The franchise was close to crumbling and could have easily moved.

Today's operation is worlds better.

Running game is fine. 11th in yards per carry with 6 of the teams ahead of us having mobile QBs. The coaches just need to call more running plays.

Methinks you're kidding yourself if you think the defense that showed up in Seattle wasn't awful. The only good defense we've had was the 2006 crew. In 2009, Sharper covered up the garbage we had before him and now after him

Hey Champagne.

Name me one other team or coach with more wins than Payton in the same time span.

I'll hang up and listen.

You simply can't watch Saints this year, or the past 7 years for that matter, and decide offense is where the problems are

There were most definitel problems this season. Defense was a bigger issue but we lost multiple games due to offensive issues this season. Protection early on, wide receivers failing to get separation , and the brees pick festival.

I'd definitely put the 2nd falcons game and 9ers game strictly on the offense.

Absolutely.

But we're talking bad games on offense vs years of terrible defense

They played well for the most part that entire season and kept us in games when Brees decided to frick around (though he was probably injured). Yes, they had a bad game at the worst possible time, but that doesn't change the fact that they had a good season.

That's true but we need to run consistently which isn't happening. Impose our will so to speak. One long run today was about it.

The biggest issue this year was not having Payton. Getting him back will fix most but not all the problems.
