Why does this hunting round get love? Don't get me wrong .270, .308 and 30-06 are some fine rounds, but I don't see too many guys pimping this round.

I love it. I used to shoot a .270. Then I shot my brothers 7mm-08 and went out to buy one when I got home. Its a great round with less kick than other deer rounds. (Yes, I am getting old and a bit of a puss when it comes to kick. Mock all you want. I deserve it)

SO, I am just curious as to why it gets no love?

7mm-08, has been pimped on this board for some time, it is a fine round, most reccomend it for youth rifles, but it is great for anyone hunting white tails

My 22 yr old just bought one in 7MM 08 and he really likes it. He was shooting 30 06 prior.

I prefer the much more powerful and devastating 7mm-243-08.. Only a few grown men can handle the recoil, though..

My main deer rifle is a Ruger 7mm/08. Synthetic stock, stainless steel, topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3x9. Pretty sweet shooting rig.

This is nothing compared to the awesome power and flat trajectory of the 7mm-260-08.

I also like the reverse kick option that the 7mm-.260-08 offers.

Once you get past that little flaw, the weapon shoots like .22 short. As to the long range capability you mentioned, I blew up a hedgehog at 3.5 miles the other night while truffle hunting.

Vol Fan,
Indeed, the 7-08 is a FINE deer hunting round. I don't have one, but I nearly bought one when I bought a 308 Win for my son's first deer gun. Actually, I think the 7-08 gets it's fair share of love around here. Since the 270, 308 and 30-06 are so good, have been around longer and have better availability of ammo, they are going to be more recs for them than for the 7-08. In addition, there are always going to be some shooters and hunters who aren't going to show ANY love for a non-magnum, like the 7-08.
