How to finish degree- 5 years later (elementary education- general???)

So I knocked up my wife 5 years ago right before she finished her degree in elementary education. All she had to do was a semester of student teaching and she was done.

So now it is 5 years later and she just wants to get a degree as fast a possible. All of the other credits were at Southern Mississippi and now we live in Southwest Louisiana (near McNeese).

So the questions are, what is the fastest way to a degree? Can she finish it online? Is there any issue with changing to general studies from EE? Does it matter where she graduates from (the place where she takes the last classes or USM?) Thanks.

Can't she just arrange to do the semester of student teaching through USM?

Well first she needs to see if her credit can transfer over to McNesse. If not I'm sure she can take correspondences classes through Southern Miss to finish her deegree.

That's what I'm wondering.

And why would she want to go to general studies?

Tell her to call USM and then arrange to do student teaching where she is.

For a bunch of different reasons, doing a semester of student teaching anywhere isn't an option.

There's a lot of teachers that finished in GS and got certified.

Bc a general studies degree is better than no degree.

It just seems like if she still needed to do student teaching that she might as well keep her major.

He said after the fact that she can't so that at least makes sense though. Up here she'd have a hard time getting a job without the student teaching because they're trying to eliminate emergency certs with gen ed degrees.

I doubt McNeese will let her graduate from there. She will need to graduate from Southern Miss. A set # of hours must be from the college you plan to graduate from. I'm guessing she can do her hours at McNeese then transfer them to Southern Miss and graduate from there.

She needs to talk to McNeese as well as Southern Miss to see what can be done.

Good luck and congrats.

My wife rolls her eyes every time I say this, but shaq got a LSU degree, without finishing at LSU (at least I thin that is how it worked.)

My point being, wouldn't it be easier for her to get 15 hours somewhere else and graduate at Southern Miss versus getting the last 15 hours at McNeese and graduating from there?

It really doesn't matter, we're just trying to find out what is the easiest way to go.

Most state schools offer online alternatives. My wife is about to get another degree without stepping foot in the classroom (U. of Alaska)

Find one, find out what will transfer and tell her to go for it. USM may offer online degrees.

In Kentucky. It hasn't been eliminated all together yet but they're making a strong push for it.

ETA: I wouldn't be surprised if we're not the only ones who end up making that push either. They're pushing for a stronger focus on content areas in middle/high schools and are wanting teachers with those specific minors/majors. Elementary Ed may be a different story given the way the content is taught.

Don't be surprised that in the future there is gonna be a heavy shortage of teachers due to that.
