Comcast - U-Verse - DirecTv

We have had Comcast for YEARS. However...Really thinking about switching. We are moving into the new house next week on lake Lanier and I need to make a decision. Choices are, Comcast, DirecTv, U-verse.

No issues with Comcast cable or internet service, but we are paying just under 400 a month between the 2 houses (Johns Creek and Big Canoe GA.) for cable and internet. I've checked with both companies and services for both TV and Internet are available for both residences, however, I will have to get Comcast internet if I go with DirecTv (which I don't mind doing).

Looking to get some opinions on U-verse and DirecTv as they are running 2 year price lock deals through the end of the year and I could cut the bill by over half with both AT&T and DirecTv with Comcast/AT&T internet. I hate getting raped by Comcast to watch the few shows/sports we watch.

Thanks.

We just got Uverse last week after switching from charter, I'm still trying to get used to it. We have an arse ton of channels. Uverse is about $30 cheaper per month than charter, plus they put a box in every room and give each box HD cables to go with it. Plus the internet is super fast. Also, each box (in each room) has a DVR, so you can record stuff anywhere and not just the living room. There's also a lot more DVR space.

So far I love it, it's just hard to adjust to all the channels.

Wouldn't get U-verse, my brother got it a year ago and reports that it sucks and is confusing as shite.

I've got U-Verse and love it. Pretty good speeds on the internet and the TV pic is great. They also have wireless boxes for the TVs which is a nice perk. Another nice perk - if you have a big house, they will install multiple wireless routers around your house to ensure you have a solid wifi signal all over - for free. Every other cable/ISP I've ever dealt with only gave one.

Don't let the haters come on here and tell you its DSL service either. Its fiber to a neighborhood gateway and copper to your house. Very stable service.

re: Comcast - U-Verse - DirecTv

This weekend I will be switching but just the opposite. We've had DirecTV for over 5 years and got sick of it. Besides paying $140 a month, we really hated to be depending on weather to get a signal. It's very frustrating to be watching your favorite tv show or game, and then getting the black screen (no signal) b/c it was pouring outside.

So for $10 less a month, we're also getting voice & internet on Comcast. We'll see how it goes.

The house I;m in and the new house are both prewired with cat 5 plugs in the wall in every room so I only need a single wireless router for iPad/Xbox/Kindle use.

What dose Uverse charge per DVR. Comcast is killing me at $15 a month PER box.

They still haven't fixed that shite yet?? My neighbor swears he never loses signal when it storms like crazy. I was skeptical...

I just checked my bill and there aren't any separate charges for the DVRs. With my package (U450) - I got 1 whole home DVR and a 2nd wireless DVR box in the package price ($119 per month).

We switched to U-Verse from Charter and love it. We have DVRs in the den and both bedroom. We pay for one DVR and the other 2 are no charge. And I think we pay $10 total to HD on all 3 tvs.

Is the U450 the best package with EVERY channel? I can't remember which the wife was shopping for. I have to have Showtime and HBO for sure because of Dexter/Homeland, Game of Thrones and movies. We have all the movie channels now with Comcast, but rarely watch any of them.

Also, on uverse's version of "on demand", do they allow you to watch all movies that the network shows. For example... Comcast shows hit movies all the time, but they are not available on demand. I can record them, but it's only for one room and my DVR's always seem to be full.

Apparently not. That is one of the main reasons we're switching. Maybe your neighbor lied.

I've had a fricking AT&T wire from my phone box on top of the ground for 5 damn months. Those bastards have yet to come and bury the mother fricker.

I'm going to cancel that shite just because of those lazy bastards.

Very dependent on dish type and signal. We have DirecTV with a slimline 3 dish and maybe have lost one hour of signal this year. Only time it goes out is during super heavy downpours. Once it dies down its fine. During that 5 minutes it breaks up on hd I just switch to the sd channel

i have directv genie for 5 tvs in the house. You can records on 2 of them and watch whatever you record on all of them. It's pretty cool. Got the free upgrade. It's pretty cool.

If you go to uverse from someone like Comcast just be prepared for terrible picture quality with artifacts from all the compression by ATT. HD uverse picture quality thread

Also even though they are fiber to the curb they don't offer much speeds over 24 mbit. Whereas companies like Comcast offer docsis 3 speeds up to 100 mbit in a lot of areas

Comcast has fiber optic as well, we have "50meg" at one of the houses, but it's no where CLOSE!!

My eyes hurt from trying to research this garbage, lol. Thanks for the opinions everyone!
