If so, what are the best ones I can get under $50?

No idea, but if you go with regular muffs, my brother bought me a pair of browning for Christmas and they are way better than my old pair.

Yes, under $50 you might try the Howard leight ones from academy, or the caldwell ones from midwayusa.

Ive had the caldwell ones for a few years now and they work pretty good.

They only work pretty good, because last year I stepped up to some MSA Sordins and they are fantastic.

I use walker game ear alpha muffs and love them. Save my ears in the duck blind. Teal sound like a fighter jet coming over. Can find them for $39 online

Does the background noise drive y'all nuts? That's why I've never bought any.

I never had any problems with background noise, you can adjust the volume to hear better.

I've only used peltors but they're pretty awesome.

I have a cheap pair from Wal-Mart and they work fine. I think they were about 25 bucks. I don't think they are really necessary unless you are listening for instructions from a range officer.
