I've never seen this many ducks in the rice fields along I-49

Had to make that trip yesterday and lots of big ducks sitting in those fields unmolested. Someone start molesting them.

I saw a shiteload of Geese flying around the rice near Welsh on my way home for Christmas. Trigger finger was itchy.

I have driven that a couple of times the past week, a little north of Opelousas and in those old rice fields just south of Alex. Lots of geese and ducks...

They had a ton on Wednesday. I thought about taking pictures and starting a thread, but decided against it since I was driving.

Alx, did y'all hunt that HUGE field on the east side of the road? If I remember right, it's got some crawfish ponds just across the interestate from it? If that's the place, did y'all get those beautiful woods just north of the rice field(s) with the lease? Always wondered about the deer/flooded timber in those woods. One of the prettiest tracts on 49

Yes, that huge field. It was McGraw land at the time, and I had an in-law connection. Killed lots of ducks.

It just so happens that I hunted the woods too, but that was a different connection. Most difficult deer hunting I've ever done. I've been through some thick palmetto in my life, but that stuff is almost impenetrable. Very few natural corridors. Never got a shot, but saw some deer. There were no ducks in there other than a few odd woodies.

Another friend of mine got the rights to that woods later, but he pretty much hunted it alone.

I was just told the other day while handling my lease with the oil company, that he still had all that. Is that incorrect?

My brother hunts the land the Blacks own on the west side between the interstate and the trussel.

I thought he sold it, but really don't know. My connection was severed due to a divorce. I used to see for sale signs on it. I assumed it was sold.

There are brothers. Both own property that way. The fields I'm talking about are on the left just past the woods. They run to 71 in the general vicinity of "The Maze" and that strange fuel area.
