car buying question

okay guys looking for some help.

wife and i spent the past two days test driving crossover SUVs and we've decided that we really like the 2013 Pathfinder

Anyways, when we left today of course we got the full court press from the GM and i was actually surprised that it was a pretty good deal. he said we have until monday to decide so i wanted to bounce the terms off of you.

37k sticker(fully loaded)

final offer minus rebates and savings- $33,500

offered us $3,500 for our 2003 Ford Escape with 130k on it, kelly blue book has it at $4,500

minus the trade plus TT&L its final out the door price is $32,300.

here are my questions:

i know i can get them lower, online it says for my car the dealer invoice is $31,700. how low do you think they will go IF thats true about the invoice price?

also how much if any should i put down? i have 3-4k saved up for a down payment if necessary but im not sure if thats smart or not.

please respect our decision and not make suggestions on what you like better, we drove them all and this is our personal preference. Also i know all you dave ramsey guys will rip me but yes we are interested in buying a new car. we have the resources and we havent had a car payment in 5 years. we deserve a nice car

You should be able to get much closer to invoice

I bought a 2013 ford explorer last night for right at invoice

I know you don't want vehicle suggesting a bit the explorer is a damn nice crossover and ergot leather and nav for less than 32

Robinson bros also gave us 500 over blue book for our trade

re: car buying question
Also I may be misreading your post but if invoice is 31,700, you should get close to that before subtracting any factory rebates

So lets say rebates are 2,000, I'd expect to pay around 30k
+ TTL

What is the factory rebate on this vehicle. You gave us the bottom line with total discounts. Most dealers these days will go into holdback if they are a volume store. Invoice means nothing. Every dealer would love to sell em around invoice all day.

It seems like you have everything in your court. I see two options here, get GM dealer involved and get other Nissan dealers involved. I've heard that as long as you let the dealer know you are shopping around, it's fair game. You have plenty of time to call other dealers and lay it on the line about what offer you currently have, and what you want.

I bought a car last week and the dealer didn't get motivated until I brought a competitor into the mix. They even matched discounts I could get through my employer with the other manufacturer.

BTW - I use this for up to date REAL car prices

re: car buying question
also what do you guys think about buying it before monday? do you think i will still get that same deal in march or april?

the model just came out a month ago and they only have 7 on the lot, i would think as more come out they will want to move them so i would imagine id get the same deal.

Do you have to purchase the vehicle now? Can it wait?

It's a Nissan (no knock against Nissan, I own one), so they'll make plenty of these. But right now, the supply is short because it is a brand new model, totally redesigned.

If you can wait, the supply will be plentiful and the demand will be down after the "newness" wears off and you'll probably get a better deal.

Should have NEVER told him you have a trade to work with. Finalize the price of the new vehicle you're interested in first and get it in writing and then and only then, mention that you might want to trade your current vehicle in.

True invoice is getting harder and harder to find out. Don't believe what you read on the internet and don't believe the "invoice" price they show you at the dealership.

You shouldn't be dealing in numbers. Be vague. Just tell them this isn't good enough. When they ask you for a number, just say "this isn't what I am looking to pay." If they ask again, just say "bring me back a lower number and I'll let you know." Vague is the key. Never tell them a number.

I never told them I wanted to trade. They started asking questions and I told them I'd probably be selling it myself

So Will Cover. Realistically what do you think I can get this car for? 30k realistic?

If you live in Dallas, I would get all Nissan dealerships to compete for your business via e-mail, once you have inquired online. Utilize the surrounding cities as well.

You may be able to get it for $30K, but it really depends on how well you can negotiate and how badly they want to move a vehicle to meet incentives and kickbacks.

My guess is that you'll have better luck if you wait patiently.
