Some of you guys seem to be pretty knowledgeable on handguns. Frankly I am not. I own subject pistol and have thought of selling it to get something else. It is a very heavy weapon and not something I would want to carry. I have shot maybe 100 rounds through it in five years and it does fine. I guess the negatives are weight and price of ammo. Perhaps I should hold on to it as home defense and get a different one ot carry.

To be clear were talking about the Baby Eagle 45 and not a full size 44?

They are cool guns albeit very heavy as you noted. The guys here are more knowledgeable than I am about current offerings but I'm sure you can find a lighter gun chambered in 9mm, 40 or 45...

You could sell that and get a nice CC weapon. If you're going to carry a pistol on you, you really only "need" that one pistol.

eta: if you want a CC pistol and something for home defense, I'd sell that and purchase another pistol and a cheap 12 guage

Yes. its the .45. Not that huge .44. I may sell it and get one that lends itself to CC. I have many weapons in the house including shotguns just this one pistol though. I should look and see what I could get for this one. Thanks for the input.

You're going to get many different answers bc everyone has their preference. I'd offer to buy the desert eagle but if im gonna spend the money I'm getting a 50.

But out of curiosity, What would you be looking to sell it for?

Look at the 1911's. I'm probably about to get one myself.

Your best bet, and this is tired advice, is to go to look at a bunch and get the one that you like best. A lot of people like the glock. 1911 is a good gun. Are you interested in revolvers?

I had someone offer me 450 for it last year. I passed. I used to own a SW 38 revolver that I wish I had held on to. I do like the 1911's.

That's not bad at all. I was thinking of the .44 when you mentioned it and I said Id get the 50 if it was that kind of money.

where about do you live?

Yeah, I know its the baby eagle. I was hoping you were in the Houston area I would have met up with you today for the good ol impulse buy.

I'm looking myself and it seems like the 1911 is what I'm gonna get.

Nvm, link fail

I'm pretty sure his .45 Desert Eagle is a 1911.

I have one that I've never shot (Kahr Instructor Purchase Program). It's certainly pretty big and heavy for CCW, and I doubt it would be as reliable a good Kimber 1911, Springfield 1911, Wilson 1911, or Colt 1911.

And I'm sure it's not as reliable as a Glock, M&P, SIG or HK.

I would not suggest that the OP go buy "the one that feels best" or "the one he likes best" or "the one that looks sexiest." I would suggest picking one from the list in the preceding paragraph.

He'll still have plenty of models, sizes and calibers to pick from, and a lot of features (safety vs. no safety, consistent trigger vs. DA/SA trigger, etc) to choose.

I never said go find one that makes you look like 007. Does he want another .45? A .40? A 9mm?

I also told him that glocks were popular. I mentioned the sig but provided a bad link and took it out. While all your choices are good, he still has to like the gun he's gomna be toting around. I didn't meant "what feels best" as "which has the best grip".

Gotta know the price range and calibur he wants to tell him what to get. My dad has a s&w .40 and I like it. My uncle hates it. He has a glock an my dad doesn't like it. To some degree you have to get why you want and not just a popular pick.

There are a lot of good handguns and the brands dawg mentioned are good. The link I was trying to provide was a sig p229 scorpion (.40) but they aren't as cheap a your glocks and others.

Dear RBWillams8:

1. I was not my intention to offend you or to hurt your feelings. Apparently, by disagreeing with one or two components of your self-defense handgun advice, I have done so. Please accept my apology.

2. Aren't you the guy who started a thread two days ago asking if all the Judge critisms were actually sarcastic, and asking if the Governor is a good self-defense weapon ??
