Also...Tarantino had some interesting characters playing the "Trackers"

from what I've read of this the media blew it completely out of proportion, but no one will likely ever know the real story.

Remember the ambush (hilarious scene) by Don Johnson earlier in the film? Well Candyland is a worse plantation than that. So where Don Johnson let him leave before trying to attack them later..
Candy may have not even let them get that far. Again, maybe it was a preemptive strike from Shultz.

Kill Bill is a ridiculously silly film. So is Death Proof, but Death Proof is sort of awesome in that it has great stunts, a sense of fun, and Kurt Russell. And its silliness has a great payoff in the end.
See, I actually feel like Tarantino is making the same movie over and over and over again... with different settings. At least everything post Pulp Fiction.

They have common themes in them but are nowhere near the same movies.
The same themes are also in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs... They're just more subtle.

Too bad they left this scene out. Go to page 55 of the script and it ends at page 67.
Sasha Baron Cohen would have played the role of Scotty Harmony if they didnt cut it.

Basically he's an awkward young man whose daddy buys Django's wife. He ends up falling in love with her.....and she cares for him (talking about babies and such *wow...but considering the time...I guess you couldnt blame her?*)
Then they go to the Cleopatra Club where they meet Calvin Candie and we see how he got DJango's wife from him...
Pretty bad arse!

I thought it was great did to spaghetti westerns what kill bill did to samurai/martial arts movies.
I really dont get the love for Inglorious Basterds on this board. I thought it was fairly weak carried by the performances of Pitt and Waltz.

This is exactly right. My dad is a huge Tarantinophile and said he didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the other QT movies (save for Death Proof), but he thought it was good.
My buddy went and saw it last night and he texted me "WOW! That movie was so good. Near the bottom of the Tarantino ladder though"
It is definitely interesting. I'm glad to see so many people raving about it

Saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the "D'Artagnan mothafricka!" at the end.

Did anyone feel desensitized during the dog scene? I felt like we were forced to feel what King felt, but we didn't get to really see what King saw.
Although QT really pushed the envelope with the content of the film, I think he may have been afraid to go all the way.

Just got back from seeing it. GREAT GREAT GREAT film. Should receive a ton of nominations. I think Foxx did a great job. I really don't think Will Smith could have done any better. Waltz, Leo, and Sam Jackson all delivered as well. I'll probably go see it in theaters again.

I'm a little late to this thread, but my initial thoughts:
Waltz was his usual awesome self. Baloo's take on the character was great, and I think spot on
DiCaprio was a fantastic villain
Jackson's best actual performance since forever...he didn't just play Samuel L. being Samuel L.
Jamie Foxx played Jamie Foxx, but did great.
The first raid of the KKK was hilarious
Absolutely loved the first 80% of it, didn't love the ending
Thought it should've ended with the first climax, last two scenes made it too long
Felt the movie's length a couple of times, but went by pretty fast for almost three hours
Thought the slave scenes were appropriately, deservedly dehumanizing, brutal and awful
Wish they went into a little more background on Stephen and Candie
Thought Django and King should've had a tougher go of it, everything was almost too easy for them until they got to Candyland
The movie as a whole was shockingly funny
The initial climax ran too long, and got cartoony even for QT
I liked this movie A LOT, but I didn't love it due to the overly long ending.
I wished Walton Goggins would've had more to do.

I just watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I thought the first 2/3 were fantastic and the final third drug just a bit. Basically everything after DiCaprio was shot was just a bit too drawn out and too cartoonish. Although I did like the scene when Django threw off his coat and we saw the bullets....that was very cool.
The acting was good across the board. Samuel L Jackson, Leo, and Waltz in particular were excellent. Kind of wish Broonhilda had a little more to do than just being a damsel in distress.
I like that Tarintino creates a whole world in his movies and you don't get to explore all of it. What was up with that female slave tracker? Don't know, she got killed with everyone else.
The tone was pretty good throughout...lots of comedy, some serious horror, and then the cartoonish climax (which as I said, I thought was a bit much).
Overall it is definitely in my top half of Tarintino films. Not as brilliant as Pulp Fiction or as tense and Reservoir dogs, but an entertaining movie with something serious to say.

I loved some parts of the film, didn't care for others. My main gripe is the movie was far too long. Towards the end I kept thinking to myself is this movie ever going to end.
