Id say Kendrick has done that already

C'mon. The guy has about 3-4 top notch hits out of all his mixtapes & albums. With his flow, he should have way more than that. Great feature artist though. He just needs to link up with J. Cole a little more and he'd be hands down a top 5 rapper of our generation.

He's been in the rap game since '03.
Guess I'd rather hear more Rigamortis & HiiiPower type tracks rather than Poetic Justice and The Art of Peer Pressure. But that's just me.

The Art of Peer Pressure is a flawless song...

Why exactly does he "need" hit songs again? What does that prove?

You can't be a staple in the rap game for the next decade w/o hits. If you don't have any you'll just get pushed to the backburner by scrub artists getting radio time, no matter how lyrically gifted you are.

That's why every rap artist has been running to Kendrick for a feature the past year or so, right? The real have recognized the real, and Kendrick is here to stay. He outsold every hit maker save Wayne and Drake and it wasn't even close.

for a feature

Yeah, so now it's time for Kendrick to translate that to his own work and drop an album with singles as good as the songs he's featured on. Attaining features showcases your talents but doesn't make your career, ask T-Pain.

Did you just compare Kendrick to TPain?

The fact that they each were called upon to be featured on top artists' songs, yes.

re: Long Live A$AP

Dude, he just dropped what is widely considered the best rap album of the year. And it was the quality of songs that got him that consideration, not because he dominated 13 year old girls' iPods. That's one of the dumbest arguments I've heard. In fact, one of KL's few 'hits' is stupidly misunderstood by the majority of people that listen to it (Swimming Pools). That doesn't help lend credence your argument.

That's because T-Pain had a track record for making hits so they recruited him for their radio singles to increase the odds of it being successful. Tell me why artists right now are recruiting Kendrick for their albums. It sure as hell isn't because he's got a knack for topping the charts -- you even said that. They recruit him because they respect him as one of the elite.

Yet that still doesn't back the claim that K-dot will control the rap next for the next decade (I'm aware that you're not the one to make this claim). GKMC may be one of the best rap albums of the year, but that doesn't get him increased air time or recognition among people that listen solely to commercial hip-hop. And true, he's being recruited due to his lyrical talents, but recognition among other elite artists doesn't lift a rapper to the top of the charts. Fans do. And fans won't listen if you don't put out hits.
