Didn't know you had such good taste in music, babe

Thank you for noticing.

FWIW - I saw Queensryche at the UNO Lakefront Arena back in 1991 when they played the entire Operation Mindcrime and Empire albums back to back. Mindblowing show.

Also saw them supporting Q2K back in 2000. The Dining Room manager of the restaurant I worked at - Her boyfriend's cousin was a guitar player at the time** so we had seats right up front. Only hard rock concert I've ever taken Ecstasy at - Had a blast.

ETA:

**He was a temporary guy then but he's with the band full time again as of this year (2012).

I'd have to go with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Roy Orbison to go with Elvis as male voices beyond compare. I will have to think about the women's category for a while. I suspect Streisand will be on it.

Still the most powerful vocal intro I've ever heard.

I agree. If it's not, It's damn close. Just blows you away quickly.

They could slow it down as well.

Silent Lucidity

And one of my favorites..

Anybody Listening?

Yeah probably any decent opera singer tops anyone else on this list. I did list the tenors though. Opera singers are unbelievable. I think an opera singer could sing "normal" but I don't think a normal singer could do opera.

I give you Midge Ure... Lead singer of Pere Ubu (yes - they're big in Europe)... and it is "Phantom of the Opera" but still not bad for pop singers...

Midge Ure - Heather Nova - Phantom Of Opera

Saw them in '86 at UNO open for AC/DC. Went really to see them. Rage For Order tour. Me and my friends were huge fans ever since we got a copy of their EP before it was released '82/'83.
Met Chris DeGarmo after they played, when he came out from behind stage and was talking to the mixing board guy, and nobody but us recognized the dude.

Then saw them again at LSU in '88 open for Def Leppard. Good overall concert there too. Wish I would have seen them do Operation:Mind Crime.

They have fallen off the map in quality after Promised Land IMO. (Due to Tate's "vision" for the band)
Can't wait for their new album out next spring, with the new singer. Geoff Tate is incredible, yes. But apparently, he's an incredible douche.

Didn't they split into 2 Queensryches? One with Geoff, one with everyone else?

Yes.
Until the judge decides definitively, he declared there can be 2 Queensryches.
As long as each one advertises honestly what it contains.

I'll go with the guys who want to get back to playing the sound of their first 4 albums.

Enya, Kate Bush, and Sarah MacLachlan come to mind. No slight to Annie though!
