Anyone else had the pleasure of watching this great movie?

Just watched it tonight, had read the book years ago but lost some of the story with time. An amazing story, if you have the chance to see it and have any interest in the Russian revolution, or just a fan of love, then I suggest it.

I'd don't really care for it aside from the music and photography

Some good performances -- especially Rod Steiger -- but it always seems more English than Russian to me

Is that unforgivable?

Oh no, I can see how it would be depressing if looked at a certain way. There is a lot of sad in the story, no doubt. I shed tear here and there. But it's a beautiful story. The balalaika over the girls shoulder at the end is awesome.

I look at it politically too. Sometimes I have that fire inside to want a revolution, like Strelnikov. But Zhivago is a reminder that just living is the best form of revolution. Strelnikov realized this, and was coming back for his love at the end of the movie, he wanted to be called Pasha again.. think there is some good meaning to this.

A lot of thinking can be done watching this movie, not always in the mood for this type, but was tonight.

It's one of a couple of "sweeping epics" that I really enjoy. Omar Sharif goes through so much in three hours. If you watched it on Blue Ray/DVD, I hope you gave yourself an intermission. I always end up being jealous of him but I won't go into detail about why.

I love Julie Christie and if you haven't seen them would recommend McCabe & Mrs. Miller & Heaven Can Wait. Shampoo is an entertaining glimpse into the aids and herpes free late 70's.

It is definitely one of the greatest epics ever.

One thing I always wondered was why they picked such an ugly girl to play their daughter...how could two such beautiful people create that??

I've watched it 2 times. I love it, an epic film IMO.
