I did enjoy the battle system, but what did it for me, besides the points you mentioned, was the linear aspect in most parts.

I hated just basically walking down a theoretical corridor.

I would say an entire consumer base that got to play a game that would not have got to play it before, was a greater benefit to gamers.

A pretty tiny consumer base that didn't really care for it and cared even less for the sequel. Despite having several JRPGs on the console, they never sold very well at all. It's a shame really.

I didn't mind this so much, if it would have ended maybe 10 hours earlier.

This is always hilarious to me. I wonder if they would have tried to hide it more, people wouldn't have realized that it's incredibly linear (as people seemed to have forgotten was exactly the case with FFX) like every Final Fantasy. It's also funny to me that people see it as an inherently bad thing.

If you want a FF game, get on for PS1. The current gen Final Fantasy games are embarrassing.

Isn't there various ways to emulate ps1 for the FF games now?

Yeah, there are some good PS1 emulators out there. I was just fortunate enough to keep all my favorites from when I was younger and not sell them when the fam had a garage sale.

if you have a PS3, it has every main Final Fantasy except for 10, 10-2, 11, and 12 available for purchase.

They made an HD remake of 10 for the PS3, which imo is where Square Enix peaked right before falling off with later installments.

I just wanna see that scene in the lake with Titus and Yuna. Could be one of my favorite moments in video game history. It was very beautiful and above most ps2 graphics at its time.

I am starting to wonder if we will ever see this game in the states ever.

I enjoyed 13 and 13-2. They're actually pretty good games. Most people who say they suck haven't played them. The only FF I haven't enjoyed was 12 and 10-2.

So I've played about 2 hours so far. Cool graphics and I like the battle system. It's different but in a good way. Is most the game just walking in a straight line like contra or something?

I'm about halfway through and no it doesn't change. Very linear (for a FF).

It is linear, but it has a great story and I enjoyed the new battle system. Also there is part of it that is a lot like the Calm Lands from FF10, best place to train/explore/branch off and do sidequests.

No. Not sure that anyone could ever compare a 2d side scroller to FF13, but there are surprises everyday.
