I was told once you put it in a truck you can't go back. What's the truth here?

Somebody is gonna come in here I'm sure and agree and explain exactly why.

I say bullshite, it doesn't matter. I've switched back and forth a few times actually, it hasn't caused any problems. Far more important than the type of oil you use is changing it when it needs changing

Thanks. I recently changed my oil. The place asked about synthetic and I said I've always put it.

Well, the last time it was changed I let my daughter take my truck since it is her boyfriend's parents who own the place. My mistake in not telling her to tell them- it was the first time there.

Just wondering if I'm in for some surprise.

depends on how old your truck/car is. if it's newer, it most likely will not matter a bit.

It'll be fine. Heck, that's what synthetic blend is...mixed natural and synthetic.

Now 25 years ago, that was a different story. The early synthetics did not play nice with natural. Back then, you had to flush if you wanted to switch back to natural. Not the case today.

However, you will still have places that will tell you otherwise. Of course they're usually happy to sell you a flush job.

From my 1st cousin who is a chemical engineer in charge of synthetic oil design for Quaker State (Afton Chemical - Virginia) after I posed your question:

You can go back and forth since all oils are formulated for proper seal treatments. I'm assuming you are talking about motor oil not transmission fluid but the same principle applies. For ATFs there is some talk about not Changing oil types at high miles to synthetic because of the difference in solubility and seal swelling. However for engine oil it's OK. Is this clear?
