About 4.5 hours in they finally let me loose to do whatever. That's where I'm at now. Game has been great so far.

Did you beat the first dungeon?

The one where chie gets her persona? I did that.

Anyone have a guide or good information on fusing personas, social links, and collecting personas? I don't quite understand it yet.

Well, social links improve the experience bonus and which personas your fusion can result with (Pretty sure Chie is Chariot, so leveling up her social link will improve results from fusions that end up with a Chariot type persona).
You register personas in the compendium (which is managed by Elizabeth in the Velvet Room)
For fusion, I mostly used trial/error to see what I'd get. Here's a giant chart with a ton of information that may just confuse more. LINK
If you're looking for the best answers to ensure a visit levels up the social link -> LINK.
GameFAQs is pretty clutch for this series.

I'm going to have to do some reading up. The game is great though.

It's been so long since I have played it. I will probably just start a new file when I go back to it.

You can go about 4 hours before reading. That's when you get released and say to yourself, "What the frick?"

Good luck finishing the game. It's like 70 hours long.

7 hours flew by for me. I only have to do that like 10 more times

I basically put it down and decided I would come back when I had a lot of time.

I would recommend it, solely because multiple playthroughs are not likely. I quite enjoyed maxing every social link and do a lot of side stuff. Using resources like when you can spend time with different characters and what is the last day to max certain social links is very helpful.

Y'all are making me want to start p4g again.

I don't have time.

So at the end of a battle if I get a level 4 slime persona, that persona starts out at level 4 as opposed to 1?

Correct. Remember to register over with that slime in your compendium.
As you progress, personas will start as a reasonable level to level they are when you fight them. Honestly, you stop getting your team from battles, but from fusions. That's mid-game mostly.

I'm already bound by how many I can hold. I guess I'm good for now.
