As a lot of y'all know. I'm not an advocate of very strict "only shoot deer ____ big" rules but Jesus. We have multiple like this shot every season. We take about 20-25 deer off of our 2000acres a year and the majority of the bucks are about this size or a little older.

I'm a fan of shooting a buck you're proud of but working towards shooting mature deer.

I love the lease but as soon as I can afford a place of my own (dad's lease) I'm finding another place.

ETA: 120lbs

How about a guy in his low 60s that's killed near one hundred already?

My first deer (and only) was an 8 point with an 18 1/2 inch spread. I'm not killing anything less than that except for a Doe for meat.

That's a cull buck:

I mean if you dont shoot all those forked antler devils how are you going to ever grow a giant cow horned spike?

ETA: what gun killed that deer, it should be banned from the camp.

Meh

Deer get most of their genes from the doe, and you have no clue which does to shoot.

You know the punnett square

If I saw that deer in the swamp behind the house I'd blast away.

But that's the same lease that produced this:

that may be true, BUT that deer won't ever grow up to be shite, or to spread any genes when he's laying on the concrete killed at basically a juvenile teenagers age..

Yea

I'm not saying that deer should or should not be shot. If I saw it at my place I'd blow his shite away.

Point being, those genes aren't all laying right there on the ground. That deer came out of a doe which has had more than one yearling in her life probably. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Sounds like you are justifying shooting that deer?

I wouldn't worry too much if some people let those walk. But they don't. Anything with legal horns is shot. If it was either somewhere like where you and I hunt our a rare occurrence that this size would be shot, i'd have no problems

Read the post above. I don't hunt there so I don't know. If that deer was killed at my place and people were talking down on the man who shot it I'd be ready to kick some arse. That's a good buck where I hunt.

What I'm saying is that most of the deer's genes come from the doe, but people completely neglect that when talking about managing deer. That line of genetics isn't all piled up on the ground right there. They're still in the woods.

A rack like that in St. James would be from a 4.5 year old buck too
